this is one of the greatest songs i have heard in quite a while. to me, it means letting go of a certain relationship or friendship and simply trying to 'make it out alive.' lines one to three basically mean that the person is sick of trying to make this non-existent relationship work, and that perhaps it's best if they 'build fences on the wall' allowing the relationship to drift. and 'in this state i shall not remain' refers to the fact that he can no longer handle remaining in this 'territory' where things kill him the most. basically 'this don't matter like it did before' means that things that used to matter don't anymore and that he was able to open up his eyes and as he aged he realized it's something that isn't truly worth fighting for. i don't know how else to describe it. that's just how i see it! it also deals with the 'life or death' aspect. if you just carefully read the lyrics you'll be able to notice that as well. btw; this is my very first comment!

This is an amazing song. It sounds so triumphant and powerful. Yet calming and beautiful. I've got an idea of what it's about but i can't put it into words. I'm just taken by the song.

this song could mean exacly what lockedhearts said but my opinion is its about someone young with a terminal disease and is about to die. And here's why: I'm so tired of learning to talk, building fences on the wall- that could mean that they're tired of explaining and trying to make their situation look not so bad. in this state i shall not remain: obviously they're not planning on living very much longer. I don't want to go but if i die yound, fill my empty room with the sun- this clearly means that they don't want to die but if they do they want their room to be filled with the sun. And when it comes to the chorus they're basically saying they're giving up and don't really care that much anymore. Change my mind or help me to try means they want to be convinced their life still matters. Im afraid and I'm not satisfied could mean they are afraid of death and that they aren't satisfied of how long they've lived. Daylight is not the same When your stabbing at the stars In your eyes, and bleeding Is what you see this could mean that they are trying not to sleep because they're going to die soon and and that when they do close their eyes they see "bleeding" or suffering. Does this not make complete sense? Do you agree or disagree?

Musiquenotes, you took the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't agree more. i found this song on the site of my favorite author, Stephenie Meyer. She used it in a playlist for one of her books for her characters. I was mesmerized as soon as it started playing.

I totally agree with musiquenotes and SseptemberCor. This song is deep, and it actually makes you think. The lyrics and the music are absolutely genius! There should be should be so many more comments on this song! And btw, I got this song off the tv show One Tree Hill. OTH's music rocks, if you're into this kind of music! And I heard it afterwards on Stephenie Meyer's website too. Go Twilight!
