Our Last Night – Across The Ocean Lyrics 15 years ago
I understand where it could be about the band. However, at a first glance I saw it as a love song. Kind of like "they told us we wouldn't make it, but look where we are now" type of deal, but under further inspection I think it might be a not-so-love song.

When it says "say goodbye to the storms in the night; say goodbye to this beautiful sight" I take that as a way of them saying that, yea, they did escape wherever they came from together because they thought they were in love, but really they just aren't meant to be together after all.

"Because we pieced it all together when it just felt right" means that the two people involved just fell into each others lives because they had a lot in common. It reminds me of those elementary crushes where kids think they're in love because Tommy loves the same foods as Sally. You know what I mean?

"We sailed across the ocean with a boat we built as we're navigating through the storms we pass along the way" means that the relationship they created through whatever it was that they had in common was enough of a force that it brought them together and gave them the courage and strength to escape. Their desire to leave and their having each other was the "boat [they] built", and they used that to navigate through the ridicule and criticism they got from everyone telling them that they wouldn't make it.

"After years of hope, I'm writing home to let them know we made it to the coast, just look at where we are; the skies are clear and blue, I told you, and we saw what we wanted and we chased it all" is saying that they've escaped together from whatever they were running from---maybe a small town or abusive families or something---and they can see that they've found something better away from there. They understand that they've gotten away and their lives are full of skies that are "clear and blue" because they have fresh starts.

"Part the seas, we've been searching through our sleep; part the seas, this land will bring us to our knees" is the way of saying that they've made it away from wherever they "escaped", but no matter how hard they try to make the relationship work, it just won't. Being together will "bring [them] to [their] knees" literally and they need to part ways because their need for each other isn't as strong as it was and they've gotten through whatever it was that they had to.

So that's what I think it's about. Obviously songs can be interpreted in a million different ways, and I'm totally open to anyone else's opinions. I apologize for excessive word usage and possible grammatical errors. It's one thirty in the morning and I'm freaking tired... Yeah, so that's my side of this, hopefully it can shed some light on the song for someone else.

Over all, it's fantastic and I love it. In fact, I've been listing to it on replay for over a day... =]

Sullivan – Fire Away Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is so beautiful. My favorite line is: "what slips through our hands, we keep".

I'm pretty sure that means that all of the things you don't do because you're scared or nervous will stay with you forever, eating away at you. So basically the moral of the song is to not give up and always follow your heart or else you'll regret it for the rest of your life.

The Sunstreak – Wildcard Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about unrequited love. He loves her and he's told her everything about himself. It wasn't hard for him to feel this way about her, but she breaks it off. But she comes back, more than once it seems, and for awhile he feels like he used to. So basically she's the "wildcard" because he never knows what her next move is, but he loves her enough to want to wait for her even though he knows she'll never love him the way he loves her.

I could be wrong.

Rookie of the Year – Stars Fade Blue Lyrics 15 years ago
First!? Really? Jeeze, where do I start? Well, I love this song, it's so beautiful. Onward, though.

For me, this song is about a guy that loves a girl, but feels that he's lost his chance with her. It's as if she's moved away, he admires her from afar, or she's died.

"Stars fade blue" could refer to the end of night---an ending for his time with her---or light leaving someone as if they've died.

"If only I had one more chance with you" is pretty self-explanatory. Obviously he wants more time with her, to get to know her better or attempt to woo her a second time.

"I'm a time bomb ready to explode" is a metaphor for his feelings, he's so overjoyed about her that his feeling are about to exude from him and submerge everyone else in his thoughts.

"She's the virus in my lungs" is another metaphor, relating to the way she's like a sickness that's spread through his entire body. The way she makes him feel radiates from his core---his lungs---through to everything he does.

"Tell me what do you think about the girl?" asks---rhetorically---how people feel about her. Do they love her like he does? Do they hate her? Do they miss her? This is rhetorical because he doesn't want an answer, he doesn't CARE what anyone else thinks since the last lyric (that isn't repeated from the rest of the song)is "'Cause in my eyes she's perfect".

Overall, this song is about love. The whole meaning is that he loves this girl with all of her faults or failures, despite what anyone may think of her or their relationship. Whether she has left their relationship, one never formed, or she died, it doesn't matter. All that matters with these lyrics is that love can be felt in even the worst or silliest of circumstances.
