I think this song is simply about growing up and losing your innocence. "The monster in the closet, when the lights turned on Is just a jacket on a hanger and the fear is gone and the world keeps turning, sun keeps burning We are the lost and found, gonna make it through another day" Children are often scared of things like the dark and "monsters" under their bed or in their closet. But when you grow up you realize why those fears are just in your head and there is no logical basis for those kinds of fears. And life goes on. "Open the floodgates now, let the water come down" Basically opening the floodgates is metaphorical to becoming an adult/growing up and the water is a metaphor for all the pressure, hardships, etc. that comes with it. "Heaven can you hear me I am calling from a land line I need a good connection I feel like I'm losing my mind The day is just about to break I think it's safe to say, so am I" He is losing his mind because life used to be so simple as a kid and when you're an adult everything gets so damn complicated. When you're young and immature you just say whatever is on your mind. When you grow up, you know that some things shouldn't be said and also, you should learn to listen more. "Can you set my heart to beat no matter what I'm feeling Will you take the wheel and drive, for miles I've been dealing The day is just about to break I think it's safe to say, so am I" Not too sure on this one but I think it's about just moving on and taking care of responsibilities no matter what you're feeling-depressed, tired, etc. When you're young you have no huge responsibilities because usually an adult will take care of it or something. Great song. So glad that Eve 6 is finally back! |

i read somewhere that the line "We fucked up, let's give ourselves a hand It's over" MIGHT be Tom telling us that he is going to leave AVA once he gets back with blink again. i hope that isnt true. but i think that line in particular is about how tom and mark got into a fight but they made up and now its over. overall i think the songs basically about (A) just doing good deeds to make peoples life better and (B) that life isnt that bad. not a great interpretation but thats all i can think of |

the chorus of this song should give you the meaning of this song and the entire album for that matter. "Kids live fearlessly and curious lives Grow up to be so serious Lost time, broken dreams So usual Unpredictable, life's a miracle" this is so sad because its so true. i think this is what he means when he says "age old recital" in the last part of the song. "there is no release" from this cycle because there will always be people who go through life not following there dreams. life IS a miracle. tom wants everyone to follow their dreams because you cant be truly happy if you dont. and you cant love someone else if you dont first truly LOVE YOURSELF. |

this is probably my favorite song of this album next to flight of apollo, the moon-atomic, and shove. basically i think this is about 2 people that are the soul survivors after the world ends and they meet up and look to God and eachother to survive. |

i used to think this song was about a girl who was obsessed over a guy (the singer) and when the singer says "But you weren't listening when I told you everything That you need I ain't got You should be gone by now but you're not" he was saying that he just wanted her to leave him alone. but after i listened to it yesterday now i think the singer cheated on the girl or something and he feels terrible about it. but the girl loves him so much that she stays with him and he feels so bad that he says "you should be gone by now but your not" also i wanna say that smash mouth is such a better band then people give them credit for. people just think theyre one hit wonders but they really do have great music. i actually didnt even start listening to them until 2 summers ago when i saw that there self titled album was in a used CD bin at FYE where they all cost 25 cents. im really glad i bought it and i wish people would give smash mouth more credit |

| i've listened to this song a lot and never really understood it too well but when i thought about the line "It's out of my hands but stuck in my mind in time, I find my spine is crooked in design, I want to be so much more (I wanna be so much)" i think it might be about how when you want to say something or stand up for what you believe but your too afraid. and you think about it but you convince yourself that you cant make a difference or stand up to someone. when people say you are spineless they ussually mean you are a coward so when it says "i find my spine is crooked in design" its kind of saying that he is afraid of standing up for himself. then its saying that he wants to be more then the person who goes through life with a bunch of opinions but not sharing them with anyone...this relates to my life a lot.. then it goes on in the 2nd verse to ask "does anyone have the guts to say?" and "Who am I to say I disagree?" "Who am I not to change a thing?". hes asking himself why would anyone listen to me and thinks that his opinions dont matter but everyones opinon matters | |
