I actually think part of this song is about the trying to figure out the meaning of life. I'll say it WITH THE CORRECT LYRICS: When everything is said and done Still looking for answers, if only one Turn my back, the urge has gone Left with no reason, we come undone It sounds like you're looking for the meaning of life, and after a while, you lose interest and "left with no reason, we come undone". Contrary to one the other commenters are saying, this is NOT a song that can be deciphered line by line. |

NOTE! THIS REPLY HAS SPOILERS! If you haven't played Final Fantasy 7 and want to play it in the future, do not read on. **Spoilers** If you played FF7, you'd know Aeris deliberately let herself be killed by Sephiroth so she could save the planet. It may sound weird to you, I suppose, but you'd have to play the game to understand the story (and you might not even get some more of the story on your first playthrough :D). So even in the FF7 sense, I suppose you can say it's still about suicide. |

Hate for the double-post, BUT I just found another possible explanation that has nothing to do with FF, but Star Trek. There was an episode with the title "City on the Edge of Forever". :) Sound familiar. I'll spare you the spoilers this time, but it WAS an episode of importance. Well, considering this whole album is inspired by Final Fantasy, my interpretation is this has more to do with FF7 than FFX. Having to do with ****POSSIBLE SPOILER**** the gaps in Cloud's memory ****END POSSIBLE SPOILER**** with the "city on the edge of forever" being Midgar. Just my hunch, though. |
