the first couple lines remind me of the album cover, i imagine that forest. the little light is a typical literary device a la Great Gatsby either god, paradise, a woman. i'm a little confused about burning down the forest. but Jesse has used the chariot bit before in Jesus so thats probably about being afraid to die. the chariot carries you to the afterlife, a distance you don't wanna walk. so as for most Brand New songs i'm a little confused if its Jesse's religion problems or girl problems. personally i know i have a friend nora (instead of noro) thats a friend i wish was a lover. i guess simply put into a cliche this song is about people not seeing the forest for the trees or even worse, getting lost in the trees (minutia of life) and not seeing the sky, haha. or another reference would be to the albatross around societies neck? or milestone? i like the train on the tracks image though and to further the "hell" and "out" controversy, i think he switches it the first time but the end is "out" |

| Ok I believe it is "these girls are all Bikini Kill. We need a ride to Bikini Island." Bikini Kill being an American hardcore punk band from the 90s known for their radical feminist lyrics. its kinda funny, they want to get away from these really political, feminist girls to get to Bikini Island (a real place btw, in the Marshall Islands) just to have fun; then they want to get to France to French kiss some French girls who are known for being very snobby and hard to get with. women are strange but you can't resist them | |

At first i thought about the switch from "you look nothing like the kids in the videos" to "I look nothing like..." to be about Jack not fitting in to mainstream MTV video type music. this may still be a part of it. but now you all got me thinking. what if the girl is a porn star, but getting older? she doesn't look like the "kids" in the videos? she always wants to put on a "show"? so he loves her and knows her but her profession kinda bugs him but he guesses their doing fine and that he loves her enough that even though he keeps seeing her in porn he'll keep seeing her. or he only knows her through her "shows" and he'll keep driving back home to watch her? |
