Five on the Five Lyrics
It's a decision that was made between you and me
And the division that was lately this odyssey, believe me
I'm bad enough and I guess we're doing fine
But I'm scared of something more that is on the line
Well I got five on the five
And I been taking time, doing it all alone
Oh-oh, Oh-oh-oh
If we keep it alive
I'll ignore all the signs and keep driving home
Right back to you, yeah
Right back to you, yeah
Well, I love you well enough that I'll have you know
The day I found you, girl, you laughed like a stereo
Now tell me why you always wanna put on a show
Cause you look nothing like the kids in the videos
Well I got five on the five
And I been taking time, doing it all alone
Oh-oh, Oh-oh-oh
If we keep it alive
I'll ignore all the signs and keep driving home
Ah yeah
Well I love you well enough that I'll have you know
The day you found me, girl, my laugh made a stereo
Now tell me why you always think I put on a show
Cause I look nothing like the kids
Yeah, I look nothing like the kids
Yeah, I look nothing like the kids in the videos
Well I got five on the five
And I been taking time, doing it all alone
Oh-oh, Oh-oh-oh
If we keep it alive
I'll ignore all the signs and keep driving home
Yeah, I got five on the five
And I been taking time, doing it all alone
Oh-oh, Oh-oh-oh
If we keep it alive
I'll ignore all the signs and keep driving home
Ah, yeah
Alright!

I wouldn't put it past jack white to write a song about masturbating in his car
oh god! the masturbating thing makes sense! the five fingers on the five inch? WEIRD. i think jack might be a little more endowed than that, not to be perverted.
back to the subject anyway. great song!
Seems kind of obvious that he is saying he's got his hand on the stick shift.. he is driving.. he's ready to get the hell out of there (after all.. he's been the only one working at the relationship anyway.. he has been doing it all alone). Not sure where this other craziness is coming from (they'll be driving home at 5pm? haha.. he'll be whacking off on the highway? come on). Pretty simple.
I think just the opposite. I think this song is great, and have thought so since they were playing it during the 2006 tour.
The only thing I have nooooo idea about is the title itself. "Five on the Five" - what kind of phrase is that?
totally disagree with justfetus. this is my favourite song on the album musically. as for five on the five, i think its gambling speak (ie. five bucks on the five horse). not sure if that fits the lyrics though.

Since he talks about driving, I think of five people on the 5 freeway.. Gambling or bidding are other possibilities.
it's slang for what makes you go blind or get hairy palms. Putting a schloggin to your loggin...
whoever wrote that this song isnt good is just disconnected from musical talent. when i saw this song on the album i had remembered that they played it live many times over the last few years. and after listening to it and refreshing my memory you can tell that they are having fun playing this song. after the last part of the first half of the song, jack gives a "woo" and they go of into a little jam and separate song. its the 1 song i cant wait to see live. Jack=Gold
