| Youth Lagoon – Posters Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Fucking love this song, all about self awareness and perception versus reality. I'd love to hear Trevor speak on the significance of posters in general, as the word shows up in a couple of his songs. | |

| I could see how you could interpret it that way, but I think the personification of mother nature makes a lot more sense as far as the song's intended meaning. We can make plans all we want, but Mother Nature has her way with us no matter how good our plans or intentions are. It's not supposed to be fair...I think we're still on the same train of thought though. | |
| My Morning Jacket – Dondante Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"In a dream I saw you walkin' Like a kid alive and talking That was you" I love that, when you lose someone you love and you dream about them, you forget that they're dead and you can imagine whole, original, conversations with them. Dreaming is insane. |

| Modest Mouse – Teeth Like God's Shoeshine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"You should be ashamed To be so proud of what you've done But not no one Not now, not ever anyone Take them all for the sight of their happiness From that deep hurt deep down inside" This passage encompasses the whole song to me and makes the message timeless rather than coming off like a reflection of our current times. Lyrically to go from the themes of this song to the themes on the following song, "Heart Cooks Brain", is an astounding achievement and a prime example why Mr. Brock is one of the greatest lyricists the world has ever known. |

| I like this...This album's trippy as fuck. | |

^On point...Doug says shit in interviews sometimes like he doesn't put much into the lyrics, specifically on certain songs on AMOTF like "The Host", but its just the depth of his thoughts. He's always writing about things other people aren't, in ways that other people aren't. It's always dealing with the depth of the human condition. He's clearly a thinker, and even if he's not putting a lot into certain lyrics, he's probably put more thought into it than he realizes. This isn't one of my favorite Built to Spill songs lyrically, but the solo at the end is a sight to see at a live show. |

| Built to Spill – Out of Site Lyrics | 15 years ago |

When it comes to Nature vs. Nurture, I've always felt that Nurture holds more weight, and I feel this song kinda goes along with that idea. The first passage is key- "Raised unright So uptight But why blame you You wouldn't be if you could choose" I use thinking like this to not blame people for ignorant, stuck up behavior. |

| The Flaming Lips – The Spiderbite Song Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
The "Spiderbite" was from Steven's heroin addiction as someone said above. I also feel Wayne had to know this when he wrote the song, which makes it more powerful to me. Wayne was never one to confront him about his addiction, but I feel he uses the song to convey what having Steven around means to him- "The poison then could reach your heart from a vein I was glad that it didn't destroy you How sad that would be Because if it destroyed you It would destroy me" |

| Elliott Smith – Bottle Up and Explode Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think this song could be about his mom like Waltz #2 is. Especially this part where he would be referencing his Step Dad. He talks about how she's "a Dead China Doll" on Waltz #2 which matches the lack of emotion in this woman as well- "You look at him like you've never known him But I know for a fact that you have The last time you cried, who'd you think was inside? Thinking that you were about to come over But I'm tired now of waiting for you" And then at the end of the song he says "I'll get through becoming you..." which would also make sense talking about his mother. |

| And coping with death...but that goes without saying with BTS. | |
| Built to Spill – Gone Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is about missed opportunities and being able to keep your head up after things don't got the way you planned. | |
| Built to Spill – The Wait Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| One of the best songs I've ever heard. It's simply about life in general and what it's all about. So life affirming and powerful. The patience darling is likely a mother to their child. Very similar to "Time Trap" and several other Built To Spill songs. | |
| Built to Spill – Liar Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| benjaoming called it, you people really think this song is about a girl??? It's about Mother Nature and her disposition, which is not giving a fuck. The worlds not fair and "God" doesn't care...that's what this song is about. | |
| Built to Spill – Bad Light Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Narsil's definitely on the money...such a creative concept for a song. Without good light, none of what you see around you would be possible. There's probably life other places in the universe, but it's definitely rare...especially on our level at this given time. Earth is the shit. | |

| Mouser nailed this one. | |
| Built to Spill – Things Fall Apart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"stay out of my nightmares stay out of my dreams you're not even welcome in my memories when things are alright and I want what I got it' only momentarily thought" In this part I think he's talking about death...How he doesn't want to even think about memories of others deaths, let alone his own. And how everything is always going great and the thoughts resurface, even if just for a moment. "we've all seen enough now it's time to decide the meekness of love or the power of pride it doesn't matter if you're good or smart goddamn it things fall apart" Saying we actually have a choice in life, we can choose to love, or we can selfishly choose our own pride. Everyone dies anyway, so why choose pride? "Let's go for a walk yeah let's go for a drive don't know how to say thanks for being alive let's go for a lifetime let's go for a fling don't know how to say anything" I love the line "don't know how to say thanks for being alive". One of my favorite lines in any song. |
