I agree with TimeTruthAndHeart, kindacrazy and jmfan11! TimeTruthAndHeart- It's a great song about getting out of a bad relationship, or a heartache from a breakup that's lasted way too long. He knows that it'll be hard and lonely to let go of the girl (or the ghost of their relationship), but he's optimistic because he's anticipating the GOOD love that is, well, on the way. kindacrazy- "done with broken people, this is me I'm working on," is one of the lines I love in this song. I think it means that you're sick of trying to 'mend' other people, and help them with their relationships while at the same time forgetting about your own. So its time to start working on yourself. This time you're the broken person. I dont know it makes sense to me. |

WOW... yours is the only answer that FULLY fits my own interpretation! "Young and full of running" Familiarity with the playful 'dirty' versions of said John Mayer.. I imagine he might have began writing this song with a different word than 'running'... but it was a very good switch that adds to meaning of the song. "so young" Since he writes based on his own life.. and has tended to date older women.. he is still young relatively at 33 and not quite ready to 'settle down'. The media gives him a hard time about that.. which is kind of weird considering his honesty about it.. "There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me" So honest.. Even though you may break up with someone it still isn't easy to fully 'let go', especially if the relationship hasn't fully played out and you end up on and off again for awhile during the process.. it's a painful loss even for the breaker-upper.. Adding to it.. "Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me 'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see" "set fire to everything i see"... His desire for her.. really worked up.. the following says it all..... "Steady my breathing, silently screaming, "I have to have you now" "Wired and I'm tired Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours" There is definitely a dream element to it.. like if she doesn't come over he'll be falling asleep dreaming of being with her.. fantastically maybe the mattress will spin on it's axis and .. love that! Wow... just love all these passionate lyrics... amazing, amazing John Mayer song.. powerful! What a great launch he's taken with this song and album. |
