Alien Ant Farm – Smooth Criminal (Michael Jackson cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
Well, I just heard this today for the first time. I honestly love it (what's with all you haterz? haha). It's got a good beat and some interesting/dark lyrics. My first impression was that it was about a rape or beating. If it was murder, they wouldn't be asking if Annie was okay. But then again, people don't generally break into someone's apartment just to beat them up. So I'm gonna say it's rape.

And to me, the "crescendo" sounds more like a fight. It's the point where the action starts, where it builds in the story. They fought and she obviously didn't win. As for the "sign at the window", this would probably be signs of someone having broke in... Broken glass, etc. (And that makes sense to me cause the following line is, "That he struck you; a crescendo, Annie"... In other words, "we can see someone broke in, there's been a fight, Annie." And they want to know if she's okay.)

Makes sense to me. But even if my interpretation is wrong, it's still a pretty awesome song. Love it :D

OneRepublic – Everybody Loves Me Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the lyrics are, "Well I PRAY the music don't stop till I turn grey", not 'play'.

And I always thought it was "Head down, swaying to my own sound", not "get down".

But yeah, I love this song. :) And I agree with the people above me about this being a sarcastic song about fame. Talking about how he's so full of himself, and that it doesn't matter what he does, everybody loves him.

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 16 years ago
That reminds me of something I heard a long time ago. Apparently each individual person interprets things to fit their own needs and cases, or whatever may be on their mind at that moment, consciously or subconsciously. (For example, two people listening to a sermon at church leave with different points from the lesson... One person focuses on the few lines that talked about drinking or whatnot and they relate it to their own drinking problem, while the other person related it to some other problem they may be facing).

So, basically what I'm saying is... Everyone who thinks it's about drugs is a druggie! :D (Btw, please spare me the hateful comments, I'm half-joking when I say that...)

Evanescence – Bring Me To Life Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with anime1217. I also read something where Amy Lee had gotten mad because people kept thinking the song was talking about God, and she was saying that it was written about a guy she knew. I'm not saying the band doesn't have Christian influences, just that this song wasn't written about being saved by God.

Evanescence – Everybody's Fool Lyrics 16 years ago
After reading these comments, most people give off the impression that Amy is singing to a seperate person, a person who is fake, etc.

I think she's more acting as the fake person herself, and is telling herself (her "fake" self, that is), "you're not real and you can't save me". Kind of like in the video, where she plays the fake person, and others make fun of her. So she's singing, "you don't know how you betray me", referring to her own "fake" self. Everyone sees the fake person, and they don't see the actual person underneath.

Evanescence – Like You Lyrics 16 years ago
Hah, at the risk of sounding insensitive, I love this song for the sheer creepiness of it (like the suicide references). I've lost very dearly loved ones before (and had those "long to be like you" moments), but I still can't cry when I hear this song. It's not a sad song for me. I mean, afterall, "all paths lead straight to you". We'll be together again one day... It almost makes me want to smile, "I'm not grieving for you, I'm coming for you."

D.H.T. – Listen To Your Heart Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the narrator happened upon a stranger, and was able to recognize that "look in [their] eyes". When she sings "You've built a love, but that love falls apart... Your little peice of Heaven turns to dark", she's relating her own experiences to the listen, to that girl. But the narrator isn't just speaking to that one girl, she's speaking to everyone in general, to you and me. She sings, "I don't know where you're going, and I don't know why" meaning that she doesn't know about our specific case, the reasons why we're considering leaving and where we want to end up in life, but she wants us to listen to our hearts regardless. You get caught up in all the bad points of the relationship that you don't really see the whole picture ("the precious moments are all lost in the tide"). You begin to wonder if this whole "love" thing is really even worth it. And her advice to the listener is to let your heart make that decision.

The Killers – Neon Tiger Lyrics 16 years ago
Ahh! You got to it before I could, ParisHiltonKills.

I completely agree with you. That's how I see the song, more in the figurative sense... I think it's more about a person, not about a literal tiger.

Although, I also see this song as relating more (specifically) to gambling than to anything else.

"They came from the woodwork with the hopes they might redeem themselves for poor decisions, to win big"

Not to metion, "under the heat of the southwest sun"... Obviously Las Vegas, Nevada. I can only assume it's about gambling and how you shouldn't get sucked into it, like a lot of people do.

"Mister cut me some slack, cause I don't wanna go back. I want a new day and age."

They want to be rich, they want one more chance to win big. They want to live a new life, a life where they're rich and they've made it.

See where I'm getting this? Of course, I don't really know. This is just my opinion.

Pearl Jam – Given to Fly Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't think the song is necessarily about Jesus (or any God figure, for that matter). I think, symbolically, the song is just referring to someone who overcomes whatever obstacles he may be facing. The character in the song was being repressed by his life and he found a way to escape that. He was able to "fly" and be free. And then he was able to see the chains that were everywhere, and wanted people to be free like he was (he was enlightened to the fact that everyone goes through struggles). But people just kept putting him down and rejecting him (that would be the "faceless" people). And so now all that is seen of him is this "spot in the sky"... A figure that seems so high above them, so free. Something they can only admire from afar, because they aren't there with him. I'm not sure how to explain it. It's kind of like a legend, a thing that no one believes can really happen. Can they really break free like he did?

I can see where people make the connection to a God-like figure... People often say that until they found Jesus, they had never really been happy. They had never been "free".

Pearl Jam – Better Man Lyrics 16 years ago
I relate to this song a lot. For me, it's just that I really need him. My worst fear is being alone... I think it'd hurt me more to leave him and not find anyone else than to just stay with him. And as of right now, there is no one else for me. It's not like I have people lined up at the door waiting for their chance. He may just be the best I'll ever have. So I tell him I love him. I tell myself that no one needs to know what happens behind closed doors. And of course, when he's not around, it's easy for me to say that I'll leave him. It's easy to have courage when he's not right there in front of you. But you know, I can't find a better man. So here I am. Does that make sense?

And the "she dreams in colors, she dreams in red" part... I think that's where she dreams of this great life, but then she dreams in red (whatever the significance of the color is). She dreams in red because she's with this guy, and can't find someone better.
