i really can't help but translate these kind of songs to 'suit' my personal crisis at the time, but to me this song is about knowing you want something so badly, yet being to afraid to take the risk. The grass fields are like that perfect, happy place. So how will reach that kind of calm all the while my soul is to afraid to go. To take the risk. I dunno, thats what it means to me anyway. There are probably a fair few ways of interpreting it though. What a beautiful song from an incredible band. |

I think it is a sad, empty kind of hope. I think it is about depression. Someone left her "empty bed" because of her depression etc, but still she is alive. Trying to take each day and hold on. I love the line "i dreamed i was dying as i so often do; and when i awoke i was sure it was true." I know all to well that the feeling she is describing is the feeling of waking up grieving. Its that dead, numb hole in your chest. I completely adore this song. Its so beautiful. |

"The amazing sound of the killing hordes The day the banks collapse on us"--> Glorifying the 'end of the world' or the collapse of a city. Making the dysfunctional sound beautiful. "Cease this endless chattering Like everything is fine"--> stop talking mindless conversation as if everything is fine. This is probably making reference to both the collapse of the world and the collapse of themselves. "When sorry is not good enough"-->It's too late, and whatever damage has been done. "Sit in the back while no one drives"--> The feeling of being out of control. "I'm so glad you're mine"-->This has to be my favourite line in the song. It is so sarcastic to me. It seems like he is saying it as if he is dellusional. As if they arn't his at all, but he is hoplessly sing ing it as if it will make it true. Thats my take on the song really. |

Alot of Sarah's music has been really theraputic for me also. This song, and 'for you' as well are standouts. It really helps me to hold faith that someday we WILL be together, and that in that time all i can do is learn to be myself and treat myself well, and leave the rest to time. Amazing song lyrics. I wish i could just hug her! :) |

"When they speak of the open door And the way you've flown it's fine" I can't decide whether this is pure hope or a kind of innocent denial. But basically, the person they love has left and he is speaking hopefully about that. "When they show me the evidence And they're talking down your memory Nevermind the words they waste They can't see you're mine" When they try and show evidence his love is gone and they are bad talking them, he just chooses to let it pass him by. He is saying it doesn't matter, underneath everything he believes positively that his lost love is still his. "Waiting here until words run out Dreaming of the day when you open your arms In the light of our love..." This is pretty self explanitory i guess. He is just waiting, and dreaming for the day his love will also embrace their true love like he has. This song is sad, it makes you feel like his lover is never going to return but he just keeps on believing and living in hope. I know the feeling. |

This song is about lost love. Whe you know so much about each other and come so far together. You have come so far it feels like "travelling across the sea." And when that is suddenly over, we mourn it's loss. Singing in hope, convincing herself that because emotions run so deep that time has to come around for the couple again, that it cannot just end so definately. People get tired in relationships. Not of the love, but of the relationship. I think this is a really beautiful way of saying that the relationship has ended. Saying "We'll lie and rest now, I'll dream of you." Its almost like a eautifully tragic sense of denial. Once again, she is repeating that emotions run deep between between people like them, people with such a connection. She is having faith. Convincing herself that she believes that they will be together again. Reflecting on what people have told her about real, about true love never ending. The cup is her overflowing emotions. There is so much to deal with that all she can do is convince herself to believe. The repetition at the end of the song is a really lovely way of affirming that. This song is really quite quaint and hopeful. |

"No one's standing at your door" - There isn't anyone left for her now. "is that what you thought love was for?" - He thinks her view on love has been wrong. Its a rhetorical question. He has given up on her. He fought for so long and he just cant fight any longer. All thats left to do is just give in. |
