| Brandtson – The Bottle And The Sea Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I feel like the title of the song has a double meaning. The first one: "The Bottle" is his alcohol/drug addiction and "The Sea" is a place where he just floats around feeling free. The second one: A bottle cast out to sea is usually a cry for help. He asking for her help. "I've been sitting here waiting, Trying to fall asleep. There is an answer in my head to see, But I can't stop the fight. I've been going crazy. There's nowhere to run, And I'm feeling so hazy." He is waiting for something or someone to come along and save him from himself. "It's the drugs that I took. The wine that I drank. The nights here alone And my head in the sink." What he needs saving from...as I said...himself. "I need time to myself, Back on the sea. I want nothing more than For you to be here with me." He wants her to be there for him as he tries to overcome his addiction... "Is it wasted alone, Am I wasting away? Just one more year. I won't take that away from you." ...but feels like any kind of rehab might be a waste and thinks that it's going to take a while and doesn't want to put her through all of that. "Back on the road and here on the land, It's not cracked up to be all it is Understand where I'm coming from. I've gone, I'd see you around here before Curled up on the ground." He's not so drugged up now, but doesn't feel like being on solid ground feels any better. "Make it here on my own, away from today, With all of the faces I'm seeing the same." Everyone he is around is the same and he wants to be different. "Got you out on the ocean, Here on the sea, The waves in your face, And you're shouting at me" He's back to his addictions and the "waves" on her face is his inability to understand or hear her as she is shouting at him. "Won't you lay here awake, Don't fall asleep, Holding me holding on It makes sense to me, But you wouldn't allow And it's killing me now. " He wants her to stay with him because he feels like he might fall away, but she doesn't want anything to do with him, and it makes him sad. That's just what I'm getting...I'm going to think about what this song may mean some more and get back to this. |

This song happens to be one of my favorite Juliana songs. It is by no means boring. |
