John Mayer – Something Like Olivia Lyrics 12 years ago
I felt the need to post this... My daughter's name is Olivia, she's 5 years old. She is the most precious girl in the whole world. The second I heard this song I played it for her... She said "Did johnny make this song?" I said "Who's Johnny?" She looked at me "He's in my class, he's always looking at me and it creeps me out, but if wrote this song then I'll stop telling him to stop looking at me!"

Incubus – Isadore Lyrics 12 years ago
I've been a fan of Incubus ever since I first time I "Pardon Me." And then when Morning View, I really studied Brandon's lyrics and they're so incredibly out there, but more importantly, they're incredibly unique and quite sophisticated really... point is, his lyrics really make me think and it adds so much to the songs. I know he's leaving the word Isadore, as in a feeling, opposed to another person. Brandon does that- making completely abstract-painting metaphors. For I know, Erica has a duel personality and her other personality name's is Isadore. Brandon loves to make his fans read his lyrics as actual poetry, and in poetry, it can be interpreted in infinite opinions... With that said, Isadore is a great song, it's in tune.

Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks Lyrics 12 years ago
When I first heard this song it reminded me of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (2 high school shooters) in the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, and the Virgina Tech massacre with Seung-Hui Cho, they had all these people that made fun of them and just ended up shooting everyone... sad story. This song might have something to do that kind of thing.

Incubus – Surface To Air Lyrics 12 years ago
Sometimes people can feel completely alone even if we're in the middle of a crowded room, you try to connect with the people there, and you don't seem to connect with anyone on any personal level.

This song is about calling out to world "Is there anyone out there?" Is there anybody out there who's like me? Is there anybody who will like me? I don't want to be alone anymore!

Incubus – Rebel Girls Lyrics 12 years ago
FYI~ 'Vahalla' is a Norse myth referring to a great hall of Odin where warriors who die as heroes in battle dwell eternally, and 'Valkyries' are beautiful maidens attendant upon Odin who bring the souls of slain warriors chosen by Odin to Valhalla and there wait upon them....

Sometimes, brandon's make no sense, or at least the way he puts lyrics to certain songs and this song is definitely a great song. 'Rebel Girls' sounds kind of like a strange poetry-rap with a catchy chorus... He refers to Odin twice: the supreme creator god; the divinity of wisdom, culture, war, and the dead.

So I suppose there is a greater meaning behind his lyrics... I don't know anyone who would just randomly write lyrics like that without meaning. I think 'Rebel Girls' are Valkyries.

Incubus – Hold Me Down Lyrics 12 years ago
I like this song a lot, I'm sure there's many ways to interpret it. To me, when he says "I want more than you can offer", it's like saying "Money isn't everything." Personally, I have a job that pays quite well, but I have to be a completely different person there... and I keep wanting to live in a place where money isn't everything, bc in this world, money can change who you really are inside. In a way I feel like my job is trying to 'Hold me down' by making people that didn't go to college out to be 'lesser' than we are, but most of my friends haven't gone to college and some of them are just cashiers or bartenders, but they seem happier than I am. This song makes me want to just quit my job and live the way I want to (bc TRUST ME, having a lot of money doesn't make me as happy as I thought it would). I might, and this song has made things clearer to me in a way... But like I said, that's how I interpret it personally- what Brandon meant when he wrote the lyrics could be something entirely different, he could have just been trying to make a catchy song... who knows. I'd like to know what other people think.

Incubus – Dig Lyrics 14 years ago
btw, does anyone think this song could be dedicated to brandon's friend and former bass player Dirk Lance? He left the band bc he hated the direction Incubus was going and they always got in fights and stuff. Maybe after a few years, they made up and are friends again (?) eh, who knows, just a thought. It would make sense.

Incubus – Dig Lyrics 14 years ago
My take on this song speaks to me tremendously. I think like most songs, it's meant to be interpreted however fits best for your own interpretation; mean whatever you want it to mean.

For me, I have epilepsy; it's my weakness/sickness, but you can't actually 'see' it, if you met me you wouldn't ever know unless I told you. Unfortunately, for some people you can 'see' it; as drastic has someone who has a missing leg from a car accident, or someone who has a physical impairment. Or as subtle as a guy who's ego has exploded due to fame or success, a guy who used to be friendly and down to earth.

For me, this song is about two best friends who both have split away from each other due to a certain weakness, and finally grew up enough to say "I understand" and "I'm sorry", let's make sure that doesn't happen again.

Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics 14 years ago
"And I swear that I don't have a gun, no, I don't have a gun..." And then you look at how he actually died. A bit paradoxical in my opinion... A lot of ppl think that Courtney Love killed him and made it look he committed suicide bc there was so much heroin in his system that there was no possible way that Kurt would have been able to shot himself, like physically. Sorry for getting off topic... This is def one of my favorite songs, this song will never get old to me, and it definitely shows the peek and evolution of Nirvana's music/sound.

Muse – Uprising Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is awesome, the chorus reminds of something Christopher Wallace says in Braveheart (in a modern song and in an English interpretation) you know it's like "I've had enough of this F*ING S**T! They will not force us,They will stop degrading us,They will not control us, And we will be victorious!!!"

SO~ to all the ppl who think it has to do with the government, I def agree.

Incubus – Echo Lyrics 14 years ago
I love the "biggest fear" lines... My biggest fear will be the rescue of me... Your biggest fear will be the rescue. Brandon has always had a way of making you ponder of what he was thinking when he wrote any of his songs. I think his goal is for everyone to interpret it in their own way. When I listen to 'echo' I have to admit I'm completely entranced by his play on words, I'm infinitely pondering what the meaning to him was. Honestly, I wish I could truly relate to this lovey dovey part, but when he says "my biggest fear will be the rescue of me." it hits me hard. Previously, my biggest fear in life was public speaking, I mean, every time I had to speak to a crowd of people and they were all looking at me, all of their attentions were directly on me, it made wanna die. I seriously wanted to piss my pants, through up, and have a heart attack all the once. Anyways, I have epilepsy, and one time I went to local epilepsy foundation meeting for everyone who has epilepsy or lives with someone with epilepsy. They said "if anyone would like to come up and share their experience with everyone, raise your hand and we'll give you a chance to speak." Suddenly that line popped in my head and I raised my hand and they called me up, I went up there and I was dying, but I did it anyways. First I told everyone how difficult it was for me to talk on stage, not talking about my experience, but just talking in front of a crowd of people. I could tell they all understood so I went I told them everything about my experiences with epilepsy and how I conquered my life being able to live with it, then I said "I think that that's the point of conquering something your afraid of, kind of like what I'm doing right now, I'm conquering my biggest fear of speaking in public, I just want to show everyone that it's hard to do, but it's definitely possible." All the sudden someone started clapping and then everyone started clapping... and suddenly I felt okay. I wasn't afraid anymore. I moved a lot of ppl that day and all a while of moving myself. My biggest fear was the rescue of me. I'm no longer afraid to speak in public, I actually kind of enjoy it. Anyways, the fact that this line is in this song alone makes it one of my favorites by Incubus. Thank you brandon, to all the true fans: you're lyrics live within us all.

Incubus – Just A Phase Lyrics 14 years ago
I believe the lyrics to this song is intended to be written in transition from a first to third person stand point. The first person portrayal of the song is when brandon is saying "I," example: but I think I'm on to something here... this is when he tends to make statements and then he kind of transcends his statements to his internal thoughts, which are typically generated conclusions to his first-person statements. His third person assumptions are like "but sooner or later they'll be throwing quarters on stage." Brandon's an artist, a musician- someone who's life entitles going on stage. So maybe he's suggesting that in his current state of mind (when he was writing this song) was that he's scared that that's what it's eventually going to come to... his last lyric was "yeh, it's just a phase and I am waiting for it to be over too!" Maybe he's just waiting for his current state of mind to subside...

Muse – Hysteria Lyrics 14 years ago
A couple years ago I went to a party and saw my x-gf making out with some preppy looking guy. I started drinking a lot (bc I was just pissed to see that), and about an hour later I definitely lost control... it wasn't my finest moment. But the lyrics to this song make perfect sense of the hysteria and rage I had building up inside of me. Every time I listen to this song, it doesn't make me mad or rage or anything, but it reminds me of that night... haha.

Muse – Time Is Running Out Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this song is about fame and the weight it takes on his inner self. Fame can change a person, I think he wants to break the spell/addiction of fame before the consequence destroys him. I don't know though, it could be about the government too, that's just my interpretation.

I like that because I hate lyrics that make absolutely no sense and at first I was like "Seriously, what the hell is he talking about!" But I like your interpretation.

Incubus – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 14 years ago
I actually heard brandon talking about the meaning in an interview, and it's actually A LOT deeper than it may seem. It has two meanings, the first meaning (the obvious) is I wish you (friend/girlfriend) were here with me right now. The more metaphorical meaning, (and you know brandon, he's always hiding a metaphor in most of their songs) is I wish you were here- but not literally/physically (because you could be sitting next to to him and still not see the same thing he's seeing. He said "I wish you were here" in this same state of mind I'm in, because at this moment he's looking around and he's seeing how beautiful the world is from his point of view. It's kind of like when it snows you can look at the snow and say "damn it, it's snowing, now I have to shovel the drive way and it's gunna be a bitch to drive to work." or you could just look at it and think "wow, look how beautiful the world looks while it's covered in snow". So yeah, that's what he meant- coming from brandon's mouth... and I like that, so you don't have to be at the beach to be in the same state of mind he's in.

Muse – Blackout Lyrics 14 years ago
Don't kid yourself, and don't fool yourself, this love's good to last, and I'm too old to dream-- maybe it's a relationship that's bound to end soon, and he's looking at it like "dude, who am I kidding, this is going nowhere... I'm getting too old to believe it can last forever like I used to when I was younger...

Don't grow up too fast and don't embrace the past, this life's too good to last, and I'm too young to care--- maybe that means he's telling younger people to grow up too fast because maybe he thought things were gunna get better (or being wiser would make it better) when he grew up, but it didn't, it only made him just lose his will to dream. Don't embrace the past, this life's too good to last-- For the people that are older now -don't cling on the past, because it'll drive you crazy because it's not gunna go back to the way it was before, you can dream all you want but it's not going to. I'm too young to care-- maybe at the moment he believes that he's too young to settle down with someone.

Don't fool yourself, don't kid yourself, this life could be the last, and we're too young to see-- I think he's just summing up the entire meaning of the song... maybe he just wants you to think about your own life and how you can relate to it yourself.

btw all those who think he could relate or be used in a movie- one definition of blackout is "the extinguishing of all stage lights, as in closing a vaudeville skit or separating the scenes of a play to influence the audience think of it's ultimate meaning." So I agree with that too.
