it's not like Christians to fixate on one bit of information and ignore all other facts that don't suit them. He mentions the prodigal, but there are no other parallels with the story - no two brothers, no return seeking forgiveness, no father/benefactor figure, no wasting of a fortune. The only similarity is the word prodigal and the fact they've been away and returned. Lines like 'golden ring' implies a wedding ring, 'they don't know you like I do' implies that someone has not changed like in the prodigal son, but that they are misunderstood .... |
