this song is amazing. a few corrections... 6th line should be- " We're simply here to help you understand" in the 2nd verse, it should be " But you can't take it all upon yourself." and the bridge is "Cause when feelings move to words you say, it's oh that self would fade away. But it's always been and always will go on." |

The song talks about how as Christians we get so caught up in our own problems that we forget to help others. We say we're Christians, but our actions don't reflect this if we are always self-centered. A couple parts from the song that really stood out to me: "Do you feel The weight of the world singing sorrow Or to you is it just not real 'Cause you got your own things" Sometimes it's just so hard to feel for other people because we are so incredibly blessed compared to them, and we don't know what it's like. But the thing is, because we are so blessed and really don't face many issues that most of the world has to face, all of our trivial problems seem very important to us. We become wrapped up in "our own things" and pity ourselves, and don't think about other people who truly have needs. "I can't help it, I got too many issues I own so I cannot help I'm afraid but keep on preachin', preachin' to heal the world lip service makes us look great" We talk about loving God but don't act upon it! Didn't Jesus say, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." (Matt 25:40) When we love others we are showing our love for Christ as well. We can do this in so many ways. "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." Matthew 25:35-36 |

This song is a reminder that we shouldn't get hung up on our past mistakes. Sometimes it's best just to erase them completely from our minds, have a fresh start and move on. And once again Matt Thiessen's genius shines through - "I'd rather forget and not slow down / Than gather regret for the things I can't change now" This is not just a simple rhyme. There are internal rhymes: rather, gather, forget, regret, down, now. Just genius. |

It amazes me how so many of Relient K's songs are very personal - it's as if they know exactly what you're feeling. "Thought you were being so kind / By keeping your mouth sealed shut, rather than just opening it up" Best lines in the song. A lot of people think they're doing us a favor by not telling us what we want to know, because it will hurt us, but in the end this causes even more harm than if they had just told us. |
