wow. all of the input here is really important, I think almost everyone here has a good point. the song could feasibly be about any of the subjects mentioned: growing up/being alone in thought/homosexuality/realization of effort, ect. I also agree that the song is intended to be up for interpretation and doesn't mean anything specifically. however, to me (and I'm surprised no one else mentioned this) the song is totally political in nature. saying that she is questioning the government and being ostracized for it, despite how blatantly obvious the corruption is. |

to me this song was about her having a friend/lover who was for whatever reason (drugs, depression, ect...), too far gone for her to help. shes basically saying you're on your own, but if you ever want to come back I love you and I'm here for you. the first verse would represent a sort of "discovery" of the problem, the second verse being increased depression over not being able to help this person and the bridge would be her basically saying "you're going to do what you're going to do but I think what you're doing is wrong and I cant follow you there so please come back to me and where I'm at". having been on both sides of the fence as far as drugs (having to let go of someone I cared about and being let go of by someone I cared about due to my own addiction and both times eventually coming back to those people and helping/being helped by them afterward) it makes sense to me. however; nemik and frostypeanut both offered very interesting interpretations. |

well its obvious what the song is about, but with most of imogen heaps songs whats interesting is that it can be applied to so many different areas of life. for example: this was my favorite song when I was highly addicted to oxycodine, which was just a horrible dark, dark, depressing period in my life. I still listen to this song, think back and start crying sometimes. listen to it again and think about it from a drug addicts point of view, it puts a whole new spin on it. not that thats what its about specifically, but thats whats so great about it, that you can relate to the song no matter what kind shitty thing is going on in your life and its still so meaningful and such a powerful song and it can give you hope even though its just a song.
one of my favorites. |
