| The Last Shadow Puppets – Miracle Aligner Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Similar to Arctic Monkey's 'Catapult' in theme. | |
| The Last Shadow Puppets – The Dream Synopsis Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Self explanatory -- nothing worse than hearing about someone's dreams. Also a reference to his former observational style of song writing from the early AM days. | |
| The Last Shadow Puppets – The Bourne Identity Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| With as much as Alexa Chung is obsessed with the Jason Bourne series I can't imagine this is a coincidence. There were rumors that they were back together before his breakup with Arielle Vandenberg and before Taylor Bagley ("the mystery man has been unmasked" -- Alexa all of a sudden saying in interviews she was dating someone full stop). I think this is when he starts to see someone, ("talking to the real me" -- same first name) Alexander Skarsgard creeping in and decides to say goodbye forever. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Knee Socks Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Sounds like how he met, scored, and later lost Alexa. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Fireside Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| ^ Whoops, I meant heart not brain. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Fireside Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The hotel suite isn't a literal hotel suite, it's a metaphor for a section of his brain. | |
| Richard Hawley – Born Under A Bad Sign Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The life of a musician, one who busts their ass traveling from city to city and is away from their lovers/friends/family. But, it's what they were born to do -- play music. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Do Me a Favour Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| It's really "I'd have to CHEAT [not cheek] to say they're equally as bleak". | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know? Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I read an interview where Alexa Chung admitted she had been the one that messed up their relationship, though she didn't specify how. This seems a song about that. Maybe she cheated, maybe she just played mind games. Who knows. Awesome song though. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – The Hellcat Spangles Shalalala Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| AlwaysSweetMelissa nailed it. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Joining the Dots Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Easy one: Girl cheats, guy figures it out. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – The Hellcat Spangles Shalalala Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Totally, good job. Especially with the home sweet home, home sweet booby trap line. Makes me think of Alex being on the road and looking forward to being home, then coming home to another argument. The decline of a relationship song. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Catapult Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Seems to me he's singing to his girlfriend about a guy, who even he can admit is a real stud albeit a playboy, that is trying to get her in the sack. His girlfriend is not immune to this guys charm -- and Alex is sort of foreshadowing what will happen if she goes that route. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Catapult Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| No, I think it's insinuating that there was attraction from both parties. The girl, and the guy. | |
| Devendra Banhart – Mama Wolf Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I agree with the nature references, but my feeling is he is directing it not towards nature itself but a girl who is beautiful and very in touch with nature and all that's natural; so he has nicknamed this girl, Marie, "Mama Wolf". | |
| Arctic Monkeys – I Haven't Got My Strange Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Brilliant song! About someone catching their lover in their apartment with another person. Damn he is clever, love that he puts it as "Have you got your strange?" | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Fire and the Thud Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
After listening to it a few times, I think it could be about a pregnancy scare? She shows him the pregnancy test, he's not sure how to take the news, she wants to runaway, etc. That would explain the DEEPLY personal nature of the song. Maybe I'm way off base though. |

| Arctic Monkeys – Fright Lined Dining Room Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
...? Well, yeah, duh! But it is also the location where they worked on this album with Josh Homme who has a studio there. |
|
| Arctic Monkeys – Fright Lined Dining Room Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This is one of the hardest songs for me to figure out. I can't get all the references. The general idea seems to be about him being in Joshua Tree writing the album and going to a strip club -- he talks of his boredom there, missing his girlfriend, and his insomnia. |
|
| Arctic Monkeys – Fire and the Thud Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
^ I think so... Although technically Alex has denied in interviews that this song was written about Alexa moving to New York. He also says it was a EXTREMELY personal song to him, so much that he almost gave it to another band. |

| Queens of the Stone Age – 3's & 7's Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
3's and 7's in numerology: These two individuals are usually incompatible. If they do get together it is usually a clear case of how opposites attract. However they are so different, the relationship does not usually endure for long. |
|
| The XX – Islands Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| So beautiful! Definitely one of my favorites on the album. | |
| The XX – VCR Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
These lyrics are so wrong... For one thing the song starts off "You, you used to have all the answers". |
|
| Albert Hammond Jr. – Lisa Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Of course it's about a relationship -- he wrote it about ex-girlfriend Lisa Sieffert judging by the title and the fact they broke up right around the time of this album. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Secret Door Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Obviously another song written about Alexa. I think the fools on parade are specifically the paparazzi. There are lots of pictures of Alexa (looking pissed off) pulling Alex along by the hand early on in their relationship. All of this would have been relatively new experience to Alex, even though he was clearly famous already. "To make a gaze turn to a scribble on a page by a picture that holds her absence." The paparazzi can take one picture and create it's own story with it, regardless of the truth to it. When he says "ones you would rather be besides than in front of" he may be referring to Alexa's dream of being a photographer, but I may be getting too literal... |

| Arctic Monkeys – Secret Door Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Fools on parade cavort and carry on for waiting eyes Ones that you would rather be beside than in front of She’s never been the kind to be hollowed by the stares She swam out of tonight’s phantasm Grabbed my hand and made it very clear There's absolutely nothing for us here It's a magnolia celebration to be attended on a Wednesday night It's better that than get a reputation as a miserable little tyke At least that’s the conclusion she came to in this overture The secret door swings behind us She’s saying nothing She’s just giggling along Her arms were folded most indignant Not looking like she was soon to leave I had to squint in order to believe Like a butler pushing on a bookshelf and unveiling the unexpected I who was earlier reluctant was suddenly embarrassed and corrected How could such a creature survive in such a habitat? The secret door swings behind us She's saying nothing She's just giggling along Even if they were to find us I wouldn't notice, I'm completely occupied As all the fools on parade Cavort and carry on For waiting eyes Ones you would rather be beside than in front of She’s never been the kind to be hollowed by the stares Fools on parade Frolic and fuck about To make a gaze turn to a scribble on a page by a picture that holds her absence But you’re daft to think she'd care Fools on parade conduct a sing-along |

| Arctic Monkeys – Fire and the Thud Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| ^ Sh*t I meant dream reel, not dream wheel... ha. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Fire and the Thud Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
^ Yes, I definitely think the last 4 lines refer to the public and their preoccupation with Alex's and Alexa's relationship. Also clearly shows Alex's frustration with the news after first hearing it. I love that the song takes this sort of angry turn which is reinforced by the song's melody & the way Alex sings it. I don't see the dream wheel as a literal translation having to do with being on tv. I see the dream wheel more as a metaphor for the constant thoughts that runs (play over & over) in everyone's mind about their hopes and goals for the future. And the thud would be the end of the relationship. Will the fire be put out, or will there be a thud? |
