Bonnie 'Prince' Billy – You Can't Hurt Me Now Lyrics 16 years ago
rophi is definitely right on. I think there are a few other errors also. I would say lines 2 and 3 are grouped wrong and misinterpreted, they should be:

That's the thing about trouble you can love.
Everyone has the eyes the ears to be where I have been.

line 10 should be

Everyone has had the sense of my own belly laugh.

and I also think line 11 should be "That's the heaven here at hand that does not grow old."

Anyway, great song.

I'd say this is about two big Eastern spiritual themes: 1) Being alive and human is miraculous and wonderful, and all of us share the same basic nature (with all sentient beings) as subjective awarenesses; and realizing that is liberating and 2) All things seem to be impermanent and basically out of our control; and knowing that is unsettling. The last verse is an exhortation to know and reconcile these truths right here and now and be liberated by them rather than letting fear and loathing posses us.

Indeed.

Iron & Wine – God Made the Automobile Lyrics 16 years ago
I'd say its definitely not sarcasm. I think this song is primarily pointing to the fact that reality (all of God's creation) is at its core not subject to concepts or judgments. The terrible things are inseparable from the wonderful things and are really only "terrible" or "wonderful" as much as we attach those ideas to them.

I would paraphrase the chorus as "The world is as it is, God never bothered to name a thing, and the truth cannot be spoken but only experienced for yourself"

Very Zen.
