These talks became so frequent that they ended up talking about the changes that both of them are experiencing. John is obviously trying to portray his stepfather beating him he talks about his stepfather being angry at him and possibly beating him Dance Music and This Year he most definately talks about this in other songs in this song his stepfather is obviously drunk by the line "You are sleeping off you demons" John is in his room listening to music and trying to drown it all out he does this in Dance Music as well he may be saying that his stereo helps him forget or comforts him |

its basically just another song about anne frank while the narrator has taken the place of Pater (anne frank's lover) "While we would lay and learn what eachother's bodies were for" that line isnt completely about sex its a reference to the long talks Anne and Pater would have about the workings of the human body |
