I think, like a few have stated or suggested similar ideas, that this song is about humans contemplating their own existence. The lines "Keeper of the starts, I hope to never find we are just mortal souls left to die" is a prayer to a god, praying that he exists to pray to, rather than being merely a belief. Humans want to believe that there is an omnipotent being that controls the universe, and that they will live forever with him if they believe in him. We all fear the fact that we will all cease to be one day. So we pray to God that we never realize the truth; that we will all die, and that that's the end of us; that "we are just mortal souls left to die".
The rest of the song seems to talk about religion, and how we create it, yet it enslaves us to dogmas and biases. |

I think this is about how as the band accepts deals from major labels and becomes bigger and bigger, and eventually tours the world, Gabel fears becoming everything he has always hated: an abrasive, ignorant, consumer whore, part of a commercialized system that sells bands as a product instead of promoting their message. |

I completely agree with laceton on his/her point. Americans have such a negative view on protesters, revolutionists, and the like, even though the country was founded by revolutionists who wanted something better than the corrent form of government was offering. Gabel compares the fate of the current neocon-style patriots to that of the monarchists after the American Revolution. |
