Shai Hulud – Misanthropy Pure Lyrics 15 years ago
To further add, i believe that the band is saying that it is not enough to hate the world and its erroneous ways, but that one must learn from that and channel that hatred into something progressive, otherwise we are no better than those we hate.

"Preserve life through loathing.
Awaken hope within hatred.
Wrest insight from outrage."

Use your emotion to better yourself and the world.

They are also saying that there is a conflict between outright hatred for man and a desire to see man improve himself. First, they comment on man and his flaws:

"To distort the truth, to serve itself,
to oppose understanding:
I believe in man.
Man will maintain its hostility.
Have this faith."

But, even after all that, we as humans are still drawn to help our fellow man:

"Conflict in the chest,
To be concerned for the needs of such heartless men."

This song is so powerful to me and really matches my outlook on life to great music.

The Chariot – The City Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, i'm not too sure about the first portion of the song, but the second part seems to be a call to arms. They can't kill us all, if we stand together we will win, etc. Of course, this is delivered in an incredible manner and the ending is epic.

Leonard Cohen – One of Us Cannot Be Wrong Lyrics 15 years ago
One of my favorite Cohen songs. i second the feeling that the ending to this song is heartbreaking and beautiful. Heck, the whole song is. Check out the cover of this song by the band Harvey Milk on their "Courtesy and Good Will to Men" album. A dark album where this song is right at home (and done startlingly well).

The phrase "graceful and green as a stem" comes from Leonard Cohen's "Sisters of Mercy," just FYI.

mewithoutYou – Cattail Down Lyrics 16 years ago
i just saw the Weiss Family and Friends in Buffalo, NY. After the show, i asked Aaron what they say in the middle of this song, and he told me it is "Half an acre thoughts from out my head!" Apparently, his ex-fiancee is engaged to a new person and they live on a half-acre farm. This was his way of putting her completely out of his mind and being happy for her new life. He also said that this is the only line on this album dealing with her after writing a lot about her in the past. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Psalters – Ol' Glory Lyrics 16 years ago
The meaning seems pretty obvious, but i'll comment anyways. I think that it is very poetic the way that the songwriters juxtapose the American flag with the crucifixion of Christ. I remember reading that the Psalters do not believe in patrtiotsm, only in Christ. It is an interesting concept.
The song also seems to decry all of the harmful things America has done to the rest of the world over the years, talking about how we float on the stars in the blue on the flag in a daze of self-preservation. I may not agree with everything in this song, but it is really well-done and quite creative. Praise God for this good music He has blessed us with!

Psalters – Hosanna Lyrics 16 years ago
Wow, these people are very blessed! Praise God for this music and these lyrics!

"oh is it true that songs can do what bombs have always missed?
to strike the lips of power that all men have longed to kiss
that all may know if You don't save then everything is lost
Your road map to freedom is from infancy to cross"

This stanza is phenomenal.

The Chariot – Never I Lyrics 16 years ago
The first stanza seems to be talking about frauds. We bury our beliefs for motivation of "progress and profit." Thus, no one can tell the pilgrims and the harlots from one another.
The next stanza seems to refer to how we praise those who are terrible people, the "thief." He then talks about how he is going to do right, despite the fact that it is a "lonely road."
I'm not sure about the next part. Perhaps "raise the flag" means to live what you claim to believe.
The final stanza talks about how God can take us back, and thus, no distance is too great. This song is for those who "slept too late."
I assume that the title "Never I" is based on how people never receive criticism well, and always assume that they are doing well.
That's my take on it.
