I think that it means something like... When someone is breaking up with you or giving you bad news, the things that they're NOT saying (but you know they are thinking them) are what hurts the most. "It's lucky I'm clever if I didn't know better I'd believe only that which I'd heard" She knows what he means to say, and she can read between the lines. It's a nice phrase, "kindly unspoken," the things that are too hurtful to say to someone that you once, or still do care for. |
