Only Fooling Myself Lyrics

I stop to catch my breath
And I stop to catch your eye
No need to second guess
That you've been on my mind

I dream days away, but that's okay
It's like I want to hear a silent sound
And then hold it in my hand
But a rose won't blossom from a ground
Of desert sand, but I like to pretend that

One day I'll turn around
I'll see your hand reach out
I'm only fooling myself, oh
But maybe when you smile
It means you'd stay awhile
Just maybe, you'd save me now
Save me now

Well, now it's etched in stone
That I can't survive alone
You have the missing piece
That I need so desperately

Yes, I slip away to a day that'll never come
It's like a splash of water to my face
When I suddenly realize
That you could never find a place
For me in your eyes, and I don't know why I keep thinking

One day I'll turn around
I'll see your hand reach out
I'm only fooling myself, oh
But maybe when you smile
It means you'd stay awhile
Just maybe, you'd save me now
Save me now

It's love in disguise
I've lost track of time
I'm lost in your eyes
And I don't know why I think that

One day I'll turn around
I'll see your hand reach out
I'm only fooling myself, oh
But maybe when you smile
It means you'd stay awhile
Just maybe you'd save me now
Save me now
Just maybe you'd save me now

This song really hits it in the head, a girl in love with a guy who doesn't know she exists, or thinks not-so-great about her, so she goes into a fantasy land in her head where they're a perfect couple, only to be shook awake by "a splash of water to my face". This song is so me, a complete nobody in love with the football quarterback at our school, I know it sounds cliche but it's so true. Long live this song.

It's most obviously about someone who likes someone else and they keep imagining their with them and they know that the other person probably doesn't like them back.

This really hits the spot. About having a crush on someone who you think will never feel the same way. I can relate.

Wherever I hear this song I think of an average normal girl having a crush on a dreamy popular guy or somethin' like that...

I think this song is set in high school and is about a girl who is in love with a guy she knows she can never have, the guy loads of girls like, and she know she'll never end up with him, but she likes to dream, and everytime he looks in her direction her heart skips a beat. I know that's how I feel right now. :(
