| Frank Turner – Peggy Sang the Blues Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| One of the better subtle anti-religion messages on the album- "When I got to St Peters Gate, I said people, we're not the ones who need to make amends". | |
| Frank Turner – One Foot Before the Other Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Song of the album, the metaphorical idea of going into every other person is so cool, plus the atheist punky shout like "a dreamcatcher distracting you from the fact you're gonna die". | |
| Kaiser Chiefs – Caroline, Yes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I can't believe i've listened to this twenty-thirty times and thought it was "why did you have to take heroin(e)". Totally changes the idea of the song, I thought it was about someone looking up to his rock hero, and seeing him fuck up his life with drugs. I really need this website. | |
| The Courteeners – Fallowfield Hillbilly Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| If horrifically fake hip scene kids don't annoy you, I envy you. You have a point, and I do try not to ignore them, but it is hard. | |
| Frank Turner – Casanova Lament Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Yeah, i'm really unsure about this. Is it how it appears- he's sick of one night stands, or is it that he actually does really like this girl, but feels for whatever reason he can't form relationships? | |
| Frank Turner – Richard Divine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
A bit of a different Frank song this, I like it. Some haunting imagery- "He left it out so his parents would know what there was waiting for them: pale cold skin and blood seeping in to the landing carpet." Basically, this is why not to kill yourself. It's not glamerous, it's cowardly, you just transfer the pain to others. |

| Morrissey – The National Front Disco Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think the problem is more that he tries to mix irony about the far right with patriotism, which is a far right value. Nothing wrong with patriotism, but it makes meanings a bit contestable. He's not really in the best position to mock the far right when he's also complaining about immigration. | |
| Frank Turner – Sons Of Liberty Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
So if ever a man should ask you for your business or your name Tell him to go and fuck himself, tell his friends to do the same. This is partly a dig at the current regime I think, the bit i've quoted I think links to ID cards. With CCTV and that, it's more important than ever we protect our liberty. Great song, spot on politics. |

| Frank Turner – Try This At Home Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Superb song, totally inspirational, very fast paced for The Frank. Love the line- "if you're oh, so fucking different then who cares what you have to say?" I thought it was "media festive" but you may be right. If it is phillistines, he's cramped a lot of syllables in. I'm pretty certain it's "only thing that punk rock should ever really mean", not "really be" The next line is "think that you're better cause you're stood up on a stage", not "still part of state". |

| Frank Turner – The Road Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"Well I've traveled many countries I've washed my feet in many seas I've drunk with drifters in Vienna and with punks in old dc And I've driven across deserts driven by the irony That only being shackled to the the road could ever I be free" Seriously, how many incrediblely powerful lyrics can one guy write? What a legend, played this at Reading and it was unbelievable. |

| Arctic Monkeys – Fire and the Thud Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I'm not certain about all of those, being a soft southener I don't find Alex perfectly easy to understand, and there's some quickly spoken bits. I've gone through a few times though, great song. | |
| Arctic Monkeys – Potion Approaching Lyrics | 16 years ago |

After a couple more listens, I reckon you are probably right. I love all that sixties LSD stuff, but that's not my impression of the Arctic's, they aren't exactly Pink Floyd, are they? But considering how quick superstardom's hit them, they'd be unusual amongst great rock stars if they hadn't had a dabble. Like you say, lines like Maybe i'll have to try it for myself to get a better understanding, lol. |

I'm not convinced Didier. I know where you are coming from, but some of the explanations are a bit weak. My first thought is he shagged a girl abroad "I was biting the timezone and we embellished the banks of our bloodstreams and threw caution to the colourful." Fairly obvious why, I think, and he's getting a obsessive about her. "But if we’re gonna escape though, we’d really ought to think it through"- regrets. The LSD explanation is probably better, I just don't see the Arctic Monkeys as the sort of band who'd write a song about a drug. I'm not saying they don't use them, but I don't think they are hardcore users. I mean one explanation you've given for a line is "He realises now under it's effect that it's the only drug he wants. That's quite a strong statement of endorsement. Doesn't fit with my idea of Alex and the boys, but then again, I don't know them. |

| Arctic Monkeys – My Propeller Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Good song, it's got a real dark quality. I'm not certain of the meaning, but I think the first line- "If you can summon the strength, tow me" is important, he's depressed and feels trapped in a slump, and only the person (girl, presumably) can help. I don't know if it's a conscious change in style or genuine personal problems, but I feel like there's some pain in this song. | |
| Don McLean – Everybody Loves Me, Baby Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Is it my dirty mind or is "And I'm twice removed from Oscar Wilde, but he didn't mind, why, he just smiled" an innuendo? Using the idea he's boasting of relations with the famous, with the idea of... I don't want to keep going with this... | |
