Real Estate – It's Real Lyrics 14 years ago
"I count the leaves into (??)
A tree (??)"

I'm almost certain I hear, "I carved our names into a tree". amazing song, nevertheless. just wish I had some solid lyrics for it.

I love the way he carries out his lyrics - its almost like he's singing it in exasperation, like he needs to get everything out to the world in a certain time. Really similar to how Elton John did for the every other verses in "Bennie and the Jets".

Love this song. Seems like he's simply telling his thoughts through this song.

Tamaryn – Dawning Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm surprised no one else has commented on this amazing song yet. woah.

I take it as a break up song. the girl still has nostalgic memories and feelings for the guy (I woke up wanting you)
but I'm guessing the guy pulled a heartless break up on her, probably some sadism in there (did your heart succeed / the way you want it to).

the second part of the song is more of a "now I'm realizing that I gradually hate you, you're an asshole" kind of thing; vast sky --> dead star --> cruel sea

that's how I portrayed it.

LCD Soundsystem – You Wanted a Hit Lyrics 14 years ago
"You wanted a hit
But maybe we don't do hits
I try and try
It ends up feeling kind of wrong"

This part really got me to think, at first, that this song was about an annoying drug addict friend you may have, but I'm pretty sure it has both meanings, both about the record company and drugs.

Vampire Weekend – Diplomat's Son Lyrics 16 years ago
Ezra's voice and singing style is similar to Morrissey's in this song, and I like it.

The reference to "Simon" is probably to Paul Simon, and maybe its a comparison to Strummer?

The Smiths – Never Had No One Ever Lyrics 16 years ago
"On The Queen Is Dead, 'Never Had No One Ever', there's a line that goes 'When you walk without ease/on these/the very streets where you were raised/I had a really bad dream/it lasted 20 years, seven months and 27 days/Never had no one ever'. It was the frustration that I felt at the age of 20 when I still didn't feel easy walking around the streets on which I'd been born, where all my family had lived - they're originally from Ireland but had been here since the Fifties. It was a constant confusion to me why I never really felt 'This is my patch. This is my home. I know these people. I can do what I like, because this is mine.' It never was. I could never walk easily."

- Morrissey, Melody Maker, September 27, 1986
