| ††† – †he Epilogue Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song makes me think that the singer is stalking a girl who he is obsessed with and thinks he's in love with. He watches her in the car and follows her as she drives from the bar and watches her sleep in the park. His "doom" is when he finally confronts her and breaks his perfect relationship. As is, he can concoct the perfect romance with her from far away, but he's afraid that it will be ruined when he finally approaches her. | |

From the first time I heard this song, this is how I've always interpreted it. Can you lie next to her And give her your heart, your heart As well as your body And can you lie next to her And confess your love, your love As well as your folly The singer is male A and he's singing to male B. The two had been in a relationship, but #2 was always insecure about his sexuality and eventually caved in to societal pressures or his own securities and tried to be straight by getting into a relationship with a girl. Also, it sounds like "folly" is sung very sarcastically, as if A is mocking B and calling their relationship (or even B rejecting his being gay) as "folly." And can you kneel before the king And say I'm clean, I'm clean B is a religious man, and homosexuality is frowned upon in most religions, and A is mocking him, asking if B can go before his god and say that he's "clean," or sin-free, even though A and B had a relationship, and that B trying to be heterosexual won't make him "clean" in his god's eyes. But tell me now, where was my fault In loving you with all my heart Oh tell me now, where was my fault In loving you with all my heart When B broke it off, he told A that it was A's fault, that A pressured him into their relationship, anything to take the blame off himself, and A is reflecting on how much he loved B, and it wasn't his fault because, at the time, B had wanted him too. A white blank page and a swelling rage, rage You did not think when you sent me to the brink, the brink You desired my attention but denied my affections, my affections Now A is getting bitter and angry at B, because B didn't consider his feelings at all when he broke it off with A, and was only thinking of himself and how to appear more "normal" (read: heterosexual). Because they had a relationship, A had been attached to B, but B had ripped out his heart, only thinking about himself, and A mockingly reminds B that B did want the attention he got from A. Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life Even with everything he went through, A is telling B that when things don't work out with the girl, to come back because, even with a broken heart and bitter resentment against B, A still loves him and would "follow [him] with [his] whole life." |

Here are the real lyrics as told by YtG: Always on time You’re in white light But you’re wrong dear You won’t be telling all the lies when I’m gone And you know it’s for show Everybody holds on to something And you can’t hide me Tell me, I’m in charge Back like the old days Tell me, I’m involved And we will be fine I’m still here You’re in the right Every body knows you tried, and I tried Always on time You’re on my mind But I’m wrong dear I won’t be telling all the lies when you’re gone The front door opened slow Everybody moves on someday And I can’t find you Tell me you’re in charge Back like the old days Tell me you’re involved And we will be fine I’m still here You’re in the right Everybody knows I tried, and you tried You’re eyes open up Inside you’re fine Tell me you’re in charge Back like the old days Tell me you’re involved And we will be fine I’m still here You’re in the right Everybody knows I tried, and you tried |

They finally posted their lyrics. Here's the correct version: Stop! The train is riding Down to the station where you lived When we were school kids Hey! The rails are caught now And I am falling down Fools in a spiral Round this town of steam My Body tells me no! But I won’t quit I want more, I want more My Body tells me no! But I won’t quit I want more, I want more! Stop The train is riding Down to the station where I lived When I was a cool kid Hey! Is it my fault that The fallen embers burn Down in a spiral Round your crown of thieves My body tells me no, but I won’t quit I want more, I want more! My body tells me no, but I won’t quit I want more, I want more! And it rides out of town Oh, it’s my road (x^) And It’s my war (X2) His eyes are open It’s my war (X2) His eyes are open (X2) My body tells me no, but I won’t quit I want more, I want more! My body tells me no, but I won’t quit I want more, I want more! And it rides out of town |

This is my favorite Coldplay song ever. I wish I knew what it really meant, what the boys wanted to portray but, for me, I interpret this song as simpler than it probably should be. To me, it's a cry out to be someone, not to get "swallowed in the sea" of the everyday and be no one. I think it could also be for someone who has died. Like, my mom died just over a month ago and on certain days this song is for her in that I don't want her to go unnoticed and just get swallowed up in the day-to-day goings on of the world where she no longer is. I think that everyone wants to be noticed in some way and not be passed over or SWallowed In The SEA. |
