Very emotive song, love the driving piano and she pronounces those countries/cities. Coming back from travelling india, I know this feeling.

ps. that is his heart in the wrapped present, that is what she so absently wanders off with.. while her mind is occupied with another
she leaves him empty and lost.

Little Dragon – Twice Lyrics 14 years ago
I just watched the clip..

amazing, beautiful, whimsical. and so heartbreaking!

I got this:

she falls out of love with the bird because she became aware of another attraction in her world, one that sapped the emotion and excitement she felt for her partner.. and in return she was drawn to this new one. Shiny one. Little dragon's lyrics are often along these lines, frustration with monogamy and constraints one is unable/unwilling to live in.. though we pine for it. We pine to stay with the one person, love them so strongly forever.. but alas, we cannot choose the future nor our place in it.

She followed the new tune, one replacing the old one..

she fell in love with death, the tragic.. she is happier to face the finite and the dead and let him lead her into oblivion, than the safety and conditional warmth of another..

let's not forget

she was flying when she saw this other, this macabre skeleton dancing on the raincloud

had she not been flying with him, her bird

she would never have found this other, nor found him so attractive

as when she was flying with him.

interesting point there..

I think it's about three things: being open to life, casual sex with interested and interesting parties, and being absolutely true to your being.

Little Dragon – Recommendation Lyrics 14 years ago
chemicals = fake scents women plaster on themselves, too eager to be accepted, thus accepting every 'recommendation' from the advertising they perceive consciously and subconsciously around them. Well, sometimes. So much pressure on a female to appear a certain way, than just to exist comfortably within themselves.

further listening - 'Typical Girls' by The Slits.

I like iconoclastic women.

ever seen the movie 'The Craft' ?

Light as a feather.. bla bla bla.. when they lift her?

It's about the unbearable lightness of being, I reckons ;)

or focussing on the light. yep. cool.

Little Dragon – Swimming Lyrics 14 years ago
Yep, I'm with above poster on this one.. generally..

But maybe they were never together.. maybe she just entertained the idea in her mind, whilst remaining a stranger to him. Well, to the degree they didn't share space too intimately.. maybe afraid to invest so deeply in fantasy for it to break and be useless forever more. How much better, to preserve fantasy by keeping it in the realm of mystery unexplored.

OR

it could be a 'Martha' By tom waits. OR.. Ben Fold's 'From Above'

yeah, that adds up

I hear in Yukimi's voice always, a real sense of longing. This girl pines, it's so tangible.. it's my favourite thing about Little Dragon.. that emotional sense of past loves absent, retrospectives on the heart.

Little Dragon – A New Lyrics 14 years ago
'Sworn too fast with all my might
The clay was soft, the future bright
Old fashioned ways that won't erase
Out of control, this building gate'

I feel this quite strongly, as 'falling too fast' for someone. Feeling the brightness of the moment, so ready to be moulded by another. I have fallen too quickly in the past always, a bad habit.. without self-control checking me each time as I run through the check-in gates ;)

then comes the strange feeling you never actually knew this person, you just fell in love with the 'Idea' of them..

And then comes the the dislocation, turmoil.. inviting the ruckus so to speak, openly. From the first option, I rushed in.. I wasn't careful. The one who has the least to lose, holds most the power..

but still,

not so detached

I saw you peeking through the door.

Little Dragon – Ritual Union Lyrics 14 years ago
marriage and the inevitable cycle of infidelity that is resolved only so many matter of ways,

what cycles befall the pledged and loved, when the words leave our minds as does the love from our heart..

the reference to her father being,

she doesn't begrudge him but admires in herself a similar fallibility..

thus,

getting in trouble again..

she has resolved to make no promises, but the ghost of the relationship her parents carried out still

holds her hand

where her heart is concerned -

ps. love you yukimi :)

How GOOD is this song?

I heard it on the radio too and got really, really excited. I've been a fan of Kimbra since she released Settle Down.. She has amazing talent and is set to blow-up.. especially so after this!

And we all know Wally is just incredible.. Two of the best contemporaries of Alt-Pop right here, Right now..

The australian music scene is alive and well!

Rammstein – Reise, Reise (English) Lyrics 14 years ago
It's strange but it seems quite obvious to me;

we evolved from the sea from the tiniest aquatic forms to become humans yet all this evolution has been pointless if evolution was designed to protect our own species from harm. We murder fish like we murder ourselves,

evolved from that vast womb as we are..

still the pervading and tragic condition of humankind.

It's a juxtaposition based around that whole idea..

just my two cents. Good Song!

I think this song is about..

well I don't know. Taken semi-literally with semi-lucidity I.. Guess about eating disorders? In this case too much rather than too little. Pressure to be skinny in the city?

Fuck knows. That's a pretty passé take on it.. it's my best though. What do you peeples think?

Radiohead – Lotus Flower Lyrics 15 years ago
I recently moved to another town with my girlfriend and I had burnt this CD for the drive which was a real delight. On first play through, this song stuck out immediately. The frenetic and almost impatient drums from the previous songs slow down and magical things come out to play.. My partner was immediately obsessed with the song. I wonder if women generally have a different take on this song than men do?

I definately feel that this song has elements of (nearly) all things already mentioned. Buddhism, sexuality and self-emancipation.. It's also just a beatiful song. Maybe it's just that.

Björk – 5 Years Lyrics 15 years ago
I was listening to that. I think when she wrote it, she was frustrated because she'd just broken up with her partner. I love the way she sings it. So strong but pleading in a way, because she doesn't want her feelings to die. She has invested her heart in this person and is so sad for it to go waste.. she wants him to prove it was worth it. She knows it. But what we know and what we are shown are two very different things.

Everything I've ever felt or could relate to, she has sung about. I love how she strings these organic and mechanical beats and bloops through her songs, like some sort of life-imitating tapestry.
Not one of her deepest songs,

but one of her most honest and compelling.

it's a simple cry for truth, proof of heart.

Beautiful regardless of anything else.

At the Drive-In – Invalid Litter Dept. Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm down with that other dude. As much as this song and album had such a place in my teen years, and the clip for this song was truly powerful.. I find the lyrics are really scattershot and stream-of-consciousness with a distinctly wordy pretentiousness to them. And proof be found in the other bands associated, mars volta is a real abstract squeeze for lyrical direction. I mean, come on.. he isn't trying to make sense. Just loose-association with vague imagery. But good imagery, for the most part..

sometimes I just feel this band is a bit posey. Well, Was a bit posey.

R.I.P

stay down too, thanks

=)

Low – Always Fade Lyrics 16 years ago
I think, with the album said to be about the states and the war in the middle east, it's got to do with George Bush letting go of his crown and then pulling out of that whole f-ck up. oh, and the absolute depravity of it all.
but he faded didn't he? along with his legacy of bloodshed. it all goes one direction. A really sad song, as if I needed to say it.

that's LOW

This is a complicated song. To me. A philosphy. John Frum. Wiki that for starters, saves me looking like a prong for plagiarising all his detail.

A great line for a finisher.

Then they can really look forward to those missionaries, considering they can have em strung up in the camp freezer for months of sinewy nutrition.

gareth liddiard, fly by night club april 26th 2009

As far as I'm concerned, it will too. But the question is when.
And how much do you care?

Global Warming, the politicians favourite choice when it comes to policy facelift and physical apathy. We all want to think we are aware, and by god are we all making sure we tick the token gesture boxes. But let's face it, we are fucking the world like a parasite evolved to do so as it's primary function alone.
The worm in the apple? absolutely.

The only difference being that, apparently the worm is self-aware.

Well what if the apple is too? yeah. Well you would be a pretty pissed off apple, what with all these little carbon junkies turning you into an intergalactic horrorshow.

The facts are, we are limited here by not only the damage we have done by searching for small minded material happiness and brute social connective structure... but by our basic self-sabotaging principles from being the very opposite of self-aware.

Top of the food chain? not for much longer.

I think he has been reading Cormac Mccarthy's The Road a little bit too.
And so should you.

Give up and wait for apocalypse, or go on buying anti-dandruff and filling up the fuck chariot. Whatever. We deserve nothing less than what we shall reap, hopefully soon.

You'll catch me and liddiard lying in the gutter down the sidelane from starbucks in your local big smoke, with a sandwich board hung around our filthy necks reading:

the end is nigh?
