When I first heard this song, I thought it was Death Cab For Cutie. Singer sounds so alike.

Bloc Party – Uniform Lyrics 16 years ago
These are the proper lyrics, taken directly from the lyrics book that comes with the album, with some changes to show when a line/verse is sung more than once (I'm OCD like that)

There was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall
All the young people looked the same
Wearing their masks of cool and indifference
Commerce dressed up as rebellion

Because we're so handsome and we're so bored
So entertain us, tell me a joke
Make it long, make it last
Make it cruel, just make me laugh
We can't be hurt, we can't be hurt

Drink to forget your blues on the weekend
Think about more things to buy
The TV taught me how to sulk and love nothing
And how to grow my hair long

Because we're so handsome and we're so bored
So entertain us, tell me a joke
Make it long, make it last
Make it cruel, just make me laugh
We can't be hurt, we can't be hurt

So why do you go picking fights that you'll lose?
(When you have entertainment, when you have things to pass the time)
So why do you go thinking thoughts that are above you?
(You can be happy, just play dumb, you can be happy, just play dumb)

Well I was brave
And unique
Intelligent
A snowflake
I could have been a hero
No one can be trusted over the age of 14
Tattoo our arms
Converse shoes
Cynical
But we still do it
We tell ourselves we're different
I've gotten so good at lying to myself
(All)
All my pain and honour is used up
(All, all, all)
All my guns are rusted
So when are you gonna realise, those are not your wrongs to right?
Have another line, have another drink
(Pop songs won't change the government)

I am a martyr, I just need a motive
I am a martyr, I just need a cause
I'm a believer, I just need a moment
I'm a believer, I just need a cause
We're finding it hard to break the mould
We're finding it hard to be alone
We're finding it hard to have time by ourselves
We have nothing at all to say

Uniform
Uniform
Uniform

There was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall
All the young people looked the same

Awesome song. It describes how people these days are so infatuated with being cool that they forget to be themselves, and end up being like almost everyone else (hence the title "Uniform", which means the same) and how disappointing it is, and how it puts pressure on the few "unique" people left.

Green Day – Chump Lyrics 16 years ago
I can so relate to this song right now.

Found out last night that the girl I like, but have always been too shy to ask out, has got a boyfriend now. I don't even know him, but I hate him.

But yeh, that's basically what this song is about: You liking a girl, but she's with a guy you don't even know, yet you still hate him because you're jealous of him.

Damn, this song is a bastard to sing. Not enough time to breathe.

The Offspring – A Lot Like Me Lyrics 16 years ago
I.... love this song.

I know it's nothing like old school Offspring.... but still, it's amazing.

The drug use/abuse angle makes sense, I'll leave it as that.

It's definately "Lord of the flies" and not "Mow them down like flies"

I just spent the last few minutes playing that bit over and over again.

Blink-182 – Depends Lyrics 16 years ago
When they start talking gibberish at the end after the song, it's the line out of "Airplane!" or "Flying High" (Depending on where you live).

In the movie, these two black guys start talking 'jive' and the air hostess doesn't have a clue what they're saying, so an old lady interprets for them.

Blink-182 – Go Lyrics 16 years ago
Does anyone actually understand this song?

It's obviously about an abusive husband/father
"I heard the angry voice of the man inside
And saw the look of fear in my mother's eyes"

And how the mother/wife doesn't want to leave him
"She said I'm sorry Mark but there's nowhere to stay
Gave up all her hope and went back inside
Hid her broken heart and let the engine die"

Mark tries and tries to persuade her
"Mom get in the car and let's drive away"
"GO GO GO GO"

Death Cab for Cutie – Grapevine Fires Lyrics 16 years ago
A grapevine is a sort of slang term for "Gossip" so a grapevine fire probably means nasty rumours or something.

I'm not in the mood for deciphering, but yeh, try listening to the song again with the above in mind, and see how it plays out.

Bloc Party – Two More Years Lyrics 16 years ago
Also, the line "You've cried enough this lifetime, my beloved polar bear" makes an interesting connection to something Fyodor Dostoyevsky (A Russian author and philosophor) said.

“Try to pose for yourself this task: not to think of a polar bear, and you will see that the cursed thing will come to mind every minute.”

What this means is, that when you try not to think of something, you think about it even more.

So, when Kele calls her "His beloved polar bear" he could be saying that he tries not to think of her, but in doing so, thinks about her more than ever.

I like boytoye's explanation best, that Karma will catch up with you when you least expect it, waiting for the best time you get you back.

The Living End – Nowhere Town Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with the others. This song is about a place, real or not, where people can go where no one cares who you are or what you've done, where you can be someone else without anyone caring, and no one on the outside knowing what you've done.

Kinda makes me think of Las Vegas.

The Living End – Order Of The Day Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is about a relationship ending, but is more focused on how the other person will regret it, not like other relationship ending songs, which usually talk about the singer's feelings, or the singer's hatred of their ex.

The Living End – Reborn Lyrics 16 years ago
A few spelling errors in the lyrics.

Also, instead of "and all you kill, and all you take"
it should be "and all you give, and all you take"

However, as sickosampson said, I think it's about how a big change in your life can make you feel "reborn".

Although, the part at the end "And if you hide from yourself, you won't see no one else" makes it seem like Chris is saying "Change is alright, and being reborn is alright, but just be yourself anyway, because if you hide from yourself, you won't be able to connect with people.

So, in conclusion, the song is about having a big change in your life, allowing you to be "reborn" as another person, but you should always be yourself.

The Living End – One Step Behind Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm thinking this song is about the non-stop circle some police detectives find themselves in, when it's obvious someone has commited a crime, yet, because there is no solid evidence, it's impossible to convict them.

And damn, this song gets so climactic at the end, with the horns coming in, and the music getting louder and heavier, so rousing, I love turning the stereo up loud at this bit just because it's awesome.

The Living End – Nothing Lasts Forever Lyrics 16 years ago
Instead of "Close your eyes, you don't wanna see"
it should be "Cover your eyes, if you don't wanna see"

Nonetheless, a song with great music, and the lyrics are pretty hot as well.

As said, about a relationship gone wrong, and about how "nothing lasts forever"

I love the bit at the end when (I think it's Scott) is singing "She don't need to frown, cos she's been walking around, with her heart dragging on the ground"

Not sure if it's been said already, but two years is supposedly how long it takes to get over a serious relationship, give a tack a bit. Which is where the title and chorus comes from.

An Apathy song to rival Longview by Green Day.

Two completely different musical styles, but the way the lyrics interact with the music in both songs makes them both awesome.

Green Day – 21st Century Breakdown Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is terrible. This album is terrible. It's just more anti-America anti-war crap, which is probably the most popular bandwagon on the earth at the moment, because even Americans hate America. Singing songs about it and jumping on said bandwagon proves how much Green Day really have sold out.

If you've read the lyrics of older Green Day songs, and other punk bands (before they sold out), you would know that they never, or rarely sing about anti-war, anti-america, or anti-government crap like that, and when they do, it's like one or two songs, that are written with a lot of meaning. Green Day isn't punk any more, it's now radio-trash, joing bands like Kings of Leon and Nickelback, who both suck as well.

Well listen up.

America doesn't suck. It's an awesome country whose only problem is the social-class based issues, lots of Americans think they are better than everyone else, even though every man and woman is born and dies equal.

War sucks, but it's needed in some cases, cases like taking down dictators, who may or may not be evil, because no one should have complete control over a country and it's people.

I'm listening to Kerplunk. (I bet half of the Green Day fans don't even know what Kerplunk or 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours are)

Green day is dead, but at least my CDs aren't.

Get over it.

Bloc Party – Rhododendrons Lyrics 16 years ago
This song reminds me so much of most of the people in my school. They have big dreams, but they don't work for them, and would much rather go to a party and get wasted than study or practise.

And unfortunately, the way tax works means that when I'm succseful in life making $100,000+ a year, and they are homeless, I will be paying for them just to stay alive, when they were the assholes that laughed at me for being a nerd back in high school.

Bloc Party – Staying Fat Lyrics 16 years ago
Actually, halfmonth, "Gowns" does make sense, as most suicide cultists wear gowns when they commit suicide.

I actually like that line, "If they want to kill themselves, Then buy them the gowns, It's called progress" because it's saying somewhat sarcastically "If they think killing themselves is a good idea, then let them do it just to get rid of them"

Bloc Party – Luno Lyrics 16 years ago
My opinion is that his song is sung from the point of view of a boy, probably a boyfriend, who is concerned Luno's 'play hard' lifestyle is going too far, and the singer prefers her the way she used to be when she was young.

This song, musically speaking, just sounds so awesome. The whole song just sounds brilliant and epic the whole way through.

Lyrically, again, it is awesome. In my opinion, it's about people who think they are helping man kind, but what they are really doing is making it worse.

Bloc Party – Pioneers Lyrics 16 years ago
This song doesn't seem so anti-war or politicial or anything as some people are trying to make it out.

To me, it appears to be just commenting on pioneers in general.

If it can be broke, then it can be fixed: Medicine, anyone?
If it can be fused, then if can be split: Nuclear weapons, fusing/splitting atoms = bang
If it can be lost, then it can be won: Don't know too much about this one.
If it can be touched, then it can be turned: We can meddle with pretty much anything we see.

A sense of purpose and a sense of skill, a sense of function but a disregard: Sceientists meddling with things they shouldn't be meddling with (Playing God, in other words)
We will not be the first, we won't: Science is going to keep going, new things will always be learnt

Bloc Party – Vision of Heaven Lyrics 16 years ago
"Vision of heaven
No-one around for miles"

This little line has a lot of meaning in my opinion.

He sees heaven, and there's no one there. I think that the singer is thinking that he's sick of everyone's sinful lifestyle and wants to get away from the, or to find somewhere with non-sinners.

Bloc Party – The Answer Lyrics 16 years ago
This song seems more like it's aimed at religion.

For starters, Isaac and Ishmael are two people from the Bible.

"Feeding the five thousand was not done with prayers alone" seems like it's saying that praying isn't going to do anything, because it's just that; praying. The next line seems to confirm it "It takes blood and guts and it takes devotion"
