| My interpretation of these lyrics is that there are two lovers, and their relationship is messy and painful; sadistic and masochistic. But aside from its imperfection there's a beauty in this morbid, bloody romance and this love has its share of both horror and sweetness. She loves her darling and he'll do anything to please her. She loves him with all her twisted heart and he obeys her, fulfilling her every wish upon her request. He's like her own personal voodoo doll, in a sense. I think this song can be interpreted in many ways, as we can all relate differently to different songs in our special ways. I believe that this song was a tribute to Gerard Way's grandmother as he said so himself, however, I've had my own interpretation of this song before I knew that. Lovers become separated by death. The woman dies but wants more life, and she refuses to leave her lover so she returns from the dead; cheats death in a sense. The man loves her but believes it is best that their worlds don't collide, though he still wants to be with her. He belongs among the living. He knows that once he dies and becomes like her, they will be together so he's saying a bittersweet goodbye to her until then and wishes for her to remain dead until the time comes ("Things are better if I stay"). If there was another way they could be together he'd love to take that chance buy he feels he doesn't belong dead just yet, and if she loves him she'll wait for him in death. I think this way because, yes, Sweet Revenge is a concept album. Sweet Revenge and The Black Parade both tell beautiful stories, and Sweet Revenge is about death and love. |

"Come on, skinny love, just last the year" I think that means thinking of how not too long ago things were so perfect with the person you love. "Pour a little salt, we were never here" Salt may be a reference to a wound, an emotional setback. "We were never here" - may be saying this love never mattered. "My my my.." looking at and maybe regretting a mistake that was made, or an expression of the emotional aspect of the whole thing. "staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer" - you're all alone, taking in the damage that has been inflicted upon the relationship. "I told my love to wreck it all/cut out all the ropes and let me fall" - referring to a mistake that you made. "Right in the moment this order's tall" - You wish you wouldn't have made that mistake of saying what you did, because that's the moment when things started to go bad. Chorus- maybe talking to yourself about how you wish you could have been. "Come on skinny love, what happened here?" - What happened to us? Things were so good, now the other person is gone and you can't believe what happened. "Suckle all the hope in light brassieres" - There's still hope of fixing the love and being with this person again. "sullen load is full, so slow on the split" could be a way of saying you can't take much more emotional pain, so you want the other person to be gentle emotionally. "and now all your love is wasted and who the hell was i?" - wishing you would have embraced their love and the time you had with them. "Now I'm breaking at the britches And at the end of all your lines" Your heart is breaking and you would give the world to have them back. "Who will love you? Who will fight? and who will fall far behind?" - You wonder if they're with someone else now while you're still here. |

Interpretations don't have to be very complex.. I think this song is about a guy liking his best friend and is asking her if they could be more. "I don't want you fading Acting like you hate me", that could mean that he hopes that the idea of him wanting to take the relationship further won't make her mad, or that the relationship won't ruin the friendship. But if you just listen to it and try not to over-analyze, he wants to be lovers. "Would you ever dance with me like that?" Maybe he's asking his best friend to prom? |
