To me, this song is about a girl who is living a life of deceit, lies, and fabrications. She once fell in love with a girl, but was too scared to take the next step. So she hides in her closet and I think her 'paradise' is the life she created for herself, living a life where she made the wrong choice because she was scared of the repercussions of who she really was. She wants to come clean to everyone in her life and just tell them the truth, but in the end, she can't. Well, that's the story of my life :/ |

I think this song is about the singer having a dream about his ex. In his dream, he sees her and everything is so beautiful and when he wakes up, he wishes he could dream about her forever. He lies awake in his bed yearning for her and it pains him to know that she's not with him anymore. He thinks about her and is nostalgic of the past. He realizes that he may never dream of her or see her again and he's been 'awakening' all along, which probably means he will move on gradually. |

I love this song. I can really picture a lot of memories with this song in the background. I think this song is about Lindsay talking about his relationship with Stevie. They had something really special, but due to circumstances and just life in general, they can't be together. He has a family and wife and chose them instead of her because Stevie was unfaithful to him. It still doesn't change the fact that they love each other and will always hold each other in their hearts. They've known each other since they were teenagers and letting go of someone who you've known so long and been so close with is so hard to do. He's letting go of their relationship little by little.
Personally, I think of all of my past relationships and why they didn't work out. Who doesn't? We all love to ponder on what-if's and so forth. If things were different, would the outcome still be the same or would we be much happier? The first verse reminds me of my first love. She was my best friend and I never told her how that I loved her. It's been two years now and I still think of her, our memories, what would have happened if I had just told her and the person who she is now. I let her slip away, but more importantly, I let us slip away. She moved away in the summer and I never had closure, the last time we were together, we thought we would see each other again. Life doesn't work out like that. I never truly said goodbye to her and now it's too late to bring up the past.
The third verse is my struggle to move on from something so devastating as losing your first love. It's about my fight to find the bright side of things when my reason to care about anything is gone. She drained away my vitality and personality, but I'm slowly regaining my old self back. Somehow, she has changed me forever and I don't think I'll ever be the same naive person I was when I gave my whole being to her.
The interlude is just putting everything into perspective. All the relationships that were so meaningful lose their meaning as we grow older. They are captured and sealed in a glass bottle. The only thing that you can do is just gaze in wonder, but you can never touch it or feel it. You're just a stranger peeking at something that was once beautiful.
The outro is about moving on and just letting things be. The past is the past. You can always go back, but why bother? The moment and feeling is gone, and it's so rare to recreate that kind of genuine love. I will always remember her as a time within a time and my dream within a dream. She was just a wish. The sad part is.. I am in love with a ghost of my past. I caught up with her and realized she changed into a whole new person who I don't feel the same for anymore. So what's worse than being in love with someone who you cannot have? What's worse is being in love with someone who doesn't exist anymore, and always having an exact copy who looks like that person but is just a cheap cardboard replica of a lost masterpiece. |

This is such a sweet song, I want to play this song at my wedding or something haha. This song makes me think of just finding the perfect person to be with your entire life and never wanting anything more. After life's ups and downs, imperfections and obstacles, at the end of the day, it's a breath of relief when you come home to find your soul mate waiting for you. I have yet to find "the one" and all I can hope is that I will one of these days. Until then.. this song will fill me up with hope and scenes of a beautiful future with a family and the perfect someone. |

Thanks and I'm sorry that you had to go through this, too. It's painful, but I suppose it makes you stronger. I'm hoping for both of us that we can find someone just as meaningful as the person we're thinking of when we hear this song. |

Come on.. come out of the closet :P It's so much fun outside and you can't keep your true self hidden away any longer. This song is probably more about just letting yourself go and whatnot, but I take it as coming out of the closet. Perfect upbeat song for anyone to come out. |

Love this song, especially when I'm in a down mood and I need to just.. chill out. I know this song is about her watching a movie with someone she likes, but I don't know. I've always interpreted this song as her feeling down and watching a movie alone, and she's haunted by the ghost of her past lovers. They've all watched movies with her, but this time is different, she's alone and it's somewhat liberating. I know this isn't what the song is about, but that's how I've always viewed it. Perfect song for a crispy, cold, and quiet autumn/winter day. Love the solitude I get from this song. |

I agree with what everyone said on here, for me, this song right now is reminding me of past relationships/friendships. We have those moments where we know this is where we want to be, but it's taken away from us because life doesn't work like that. You can't freeze time and savor every nanosecond, you've just got to take it as it comes and not regret anything. This song is about nostalgia for me. It's about reminiscing about better times. I will always remember meaningful people in my life who have disappeared or passed away.
This song makes me a little uneasy because when he gets to the part about taking a picture and laughing about it, it always makes me feel as if the person I really cared for thought nothing of me. They were looking back on our memories through photographs and were laughing at how stupid the relationship meant to them. They probably thought, How could they have been so intertwined with that person in that photograph? So that person probably moved on and I'm just left here in the dust, used up and directionless. I will regret not opening up to that certain person and just confess my feelings, but what can I do? It's obviously over and my love hasn't died, it's just faded. There's still hope, a flicker of light that I've left on. I don't regret any time I've spent with them, though, because they were the best moments in my life. I just wish I would have known that back then. |

About an ex she had and she's missing him, pretty simple. We've all had that one person who meant more than anything to us and they got away. In her situation, she walked away from him and now she's regretting her decision about leaving him. She realizes that she misses him so much and loved him to the point where she doesn't even know who she is anymore. Love always does that, and it sucks when you realize how much someone meant after they are gone from your life.

I like this version better, it seems more heartfelt and I can feel his pain just through his voice. This song to me is about loving someone throughout your entire life. I always pictured this song about someone who is looking back on their life and reminiscing. The singer fell in love with a girl who was so beautiful and he was just amazed by who she was. She liked him back and probably showed him a side that she never showed to anybody else. He felt as if they were in love, but then she had to break his heart by leaving him, due to circumstances, whether it was career, school, friends, etc. After she left, he just fell into a dark pit of despair and he never truly got over her.. I guess he's just singing about that one girl who got away. He still has his heart open for her and is hoping in time, she'll remember him and come back, but it seems as if she probably won't. That's life. |

That is a quirky way to look at the song, rhimansworld. I know Patrick said that, but to me this song will always remind me of a lifelong struggle for finding your soul mate. It seems to me Patrick's singing with great pain and frustration. He is on knees trying to find out why all these people in his life weren't the one. All the people he loved broke his heart in some way and he's asking, "Who will be the one/From all the ashes/Of all the crashes'. He's tired of pouring his heart and soul for people who in turn break him down. I love this song because I've been asking myself this question lately, who will be the one? Who will be the fucking one lol. I'm tired and broken and this song is so painful to listen to but I love it. <3 ya Patrick! |

I agree with everyone else's comment about this song being about a girl who's lover is not particularly in love with her. She tries everything to compare to his ex but nothing matters because she can't fill the hole in his heart. I know I'm going to sound like a big jerk because that's what I basically did to my ex for 6 months and I feel horrible. I can understand both sides though because in a way, this song described my longing for that ghost in my past but on the other hand, I can understand how my ex felt. My ex was such a sweet person but we just didn't click and it wasn't anybody's fault. I don't blame either person in this relationship in Rachael's song because you can't force yourself to be in love with someone and you obviously can't force someone to love you, either. For me, I loved my ex but I wasn't in love with my ex. Nobody could fill that gaping hole inside of my heart and I vow never to put someone through this pain like I did to my ex. I'm over that ghost in my past but of course, there will always be a scar left behind but I'm open for someone new. I'm sorry for what I've done. |

| She & Him – I Thought I Saw Your Face Today Lyrics

I agree with everyone and I'd just like to add on to what their comments. To me, this song is about a girl who is reminiscing about a boy she loved. They were probably good friends and she had deeper feelings than he did but he considered her just a friend. She's remembering him and a place where they used to hang out together, perhaps in the park, woods, etc. She got her heart broken when he left her for something, someone or somewhere else. She probably thought she was over him as the years passed by but she is reminded of him by familiar places, "but now it's just a monument." Everything that happened between them was written in stone and she can't go back to change it or relive it. She can only look at it from afar with bitterness or nostalgia. I have a feeling that she will move on, but everyone has a special place for that someone who got away. I know I do.
My favorite lines in this song are, "I somehow see what's beautiful
In things that are ephemeral
I'm my only friend of mine
And love is just a piece of time
In the world."
I think that is so true because at the end of a day, love is just a piece of time in the world. We pour our hearts out and lose our minds over someone. We try to drag on relationships and try to squeeze out every emotion we can out of our lovers. I think it is more beautiful when you love someone and just things be. Kind of like this song. She loved him and he left and she probably won't see him again, but it's still beautiful. They both shared a connection that was genuine and not forced. Even though it was short-lived, love still goes on for both of them. They probably will remember each other fondly even if nothing worked out between them. |

Love this song. To me it's about loving someone so much even though they might not have the same feelings. It's the little things that the singer remembers, like her laying on his couch and how simple thing things were in the old days. Then, she leaves town to go somewhere maybe for career, school, etc. and he realizes how deep his feelings for her were. Unfortunately, the timing is bad and she never really loved him enough to even miss him when she's in the new town. His days are spent wanting her back but in the end, he realizes that he could never have her. What they had in the past was something to treasure. Perhaps he could never love someone as much as he loved her. Deep down, he knows he has to move on because too much time has passed. She's already in her new life filled with new people and she's happy. To him, her being happy is great and he realizes he needs to move on, too. She will always be in his heart, but he probably is over her and gives up on trying to work things out and just lets it be. |

This song is so true and it hits pretty close to home for me. For me, this song is about someone I truly loved with all my heart that it hurt to even think of them. They moved away and became a different person and I finally got over them, the person that I loved didn't exist anymore. I don't wanna go on about my life story but this song could be about getting out of a relationship, career, family, etc. and starting over. The feelings that you encounter when you decide to just do something new for once. It's also about how lost and confused you might be on your journey to finding whatever it is you want. |

I like this song, too. It has such a peaceful, dream-like feel to it. She makes it sound so easy to just let go and move on. I love it, though because it inspires me to just live and let be. The video is beautiful, and the song is, too. In the end, we all have our loves and they eventually end. All we have left is just to move on :) Be thankful for the time you had with that certain person and move on! |

I don't really know what this song actually means, but to me it brings up memories of past loves and happy times. To me, this song is about a girl who was in love with a boy. They were really close and she thought things could never change between them. Time was ending for them and they parted ways, most likely due to different schools. She never stops thinking about him and it hurts her that he's off with his new friends and new life while she's still stuck in the past. She thought he was perfect for her and it broke her heart that he couldn't feel as passionate as she did for him. He loved her, but not enough to truly be with her. He meets her again and is reminded of their past. She has finally moved on and he is sad because he remembered how much he loved her, but she's already gone, emotionally. She will always remember him as her golden boy and the times they had and how she once felt for him. I think throughout the pain and heartbreak, she will always remember him as "the one", no matter how many lovers she will have. He will always be her first. |

| Jason Reeves – New Hampshire Lyrics

I think this song is about a boy who had a friendship or even relationship with that one girl who meant a lot to him. She leaves New Hampshire to go onto bigger and better things, perhaps college or for her career. He is singing about how he misses her and he wishes that they never had to part. He just wants his moment with her to stay forever, but he acknowledges the sad fact that people have to grow up eventually. As he watches her put on her make up and call people to say goodbye, she tells him she's leaving him. Throughout the song he is reminiscing about the times he had with her and he is sad that she is leaving. In the end of the song, he is still sad but he knows that she'll go on to become someone great. Basically, she left to go follow her dreams and he's left just gazing at the emptiness of his life without her.
I like this song because we all reach a point in our life where we have to grow up. Some people leave us and others we leave behind, whether we want to or not. |
