ohhh the irrationality of love. she is with someone who is good for her, and yet, she misses the wild and passionate one who made her crazy. |

no way! that does not go at all. he's just realizing and reflecting upon how deeply in love he is with her. |

| Blue October – Hate Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
My take: it IS about his mother. The mother is referenced in the message and the start of the song, and in this line: "like a baby boy, I never was a man..." He was an addict. His mom was always there for him, through his addiction with alchohol. She did not deny his feelings "you never doubted my warped opinions on things like suicidal hate". Now that his sober he's able to come to terms with and reflect upon his life. He realizes what he put her through. While an addict, he was so into himself. Now that he's sober he reflects on how selfish that was. He's reflecting upon his mistakes, and wants his mother to HATE him (not LOVE him and worry about him). He wants her to hate him so she doesn't care, because that would be BEST for her. |

UGH let`s drop the whole cheating issue for a second, and everyone`s moral judgments along with that. This song, on the surface, is about cheating. Yes. She`s the other woman. However, this song is about SO MUCH more than that. She thinks she loves him, sure. But she loves him out of desperation, and a deep sense of loneliness. This song isn`t about WHY she loves him or why she has to be with him. Not at all. It`s about her loneliness and sadness. I sympathize with her because of the loneliness she feels. I think that`s why she got with him in the first place. He eased the loneliness (this may seem like a bit of a stretch, however, this is how I interpret this song). |

I don`t know entirely how to interpret this song. In any case, it has one of my favourite song lines: ` and if you knew how I placed you in the sky, could you lift me up, enable me to fly?` I think it`s about loving someone so much, holding them in such high esteem. Yet, you`ve (or he, in this song) made mistakes which have caused the dissolution of the relationship. Ehh yaa that`s all I`ve got on it for now. |

| Colin Hay – I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I have to disagree. I think it is about unrequited love. The kind of love you thought would last forever. With the person you felt like you were meant to be with. And that is a very deep loss, indeed. |

big hairy moose; i agree. I think it`s about unrequited love. Someone he still holds in high esteem, and still loves unconditionally. In fact, he always will. Though he knows it`s over, he simply can`t move on. He just knows it. And he accepts in. |

| Toby Keith – I Wish I Didn't Know Now Lyrics | 16 years ago |

The first time I heard this song, I got teary because it`s about selfless, unconditional love. Okay, not only the first time. Almost everytime. This guy doesn`t care about his ego, he loved her so much: he doesn`t care if he`d `look like a fool in front of her friends` he just doesn`t want to know. That`s how deeply he was in love with her. Even though she cheated, there`s no anger or resentment, just sadness and a longing for things to be the way they were before. |

| Alan Jackson – Remember When Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I love this song. I think it's a realistic and beautiful look at a lifetime spent with someone. An accurate reflection on marriage, children, commitment. Not overly romantic or idealized, it feels real. I can imagine an old lady and an old man together who are nearing the end of their lives, and are reflecting upon their experiences and life together, and I think this song captures that sentiment perfectly. |

Yeah, that's my favourite line as well. I also love the nostalgic feel. |

| Barenaked Ladies – Lovers in a Dangerous Time Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
'One minute you're waiting for the sky to fall The next you're dazzled by the beauty of it all' I think this song is kind of about contrasts: love and life which is beautiful, amongst a world on the verge of disaster: nuclear warfare, terrorism, disease and the list goes on and on... One feels like this world might end any second. But it's also about the awe of love and being alive, even amongst all this disaster. Beautiful song! |

ophelia I love your interpretation of this song. I agree. I especially love the second verse of this song: "He goes along just as a water lily Gentle on the surface of his thoughts his body floats Unweighted down by passion or intensity Yet unaware of the depth upon which he coasts And he finds a home in me For what misfortune sows, he knows my touch will reap" This man is so beautifully innocent! She feels for him and understand him, yes, as a reminder of how she once was. Fiona misses this part of herself. And because he is innocent to the point of being naive, she'll be there for him if he gets hurt because of this nature (what misfortune sows, he knows my touch will reap'). Beautiful song. |

Scott P I agree with your interpretation of the song. It's about a love triangle. She's the other woman. It's about her unconditional love for this man, whom she knows deep down doesn't really love her, which is why the song concludes with her saying "and if it gets too late, for me to wait for you to find you love me and tell me so, it's okay, you don't need to say it". Also, if you pay attention to the emotive value of this line, it makes more sense that the song should be interpreted as her knowing that he doesn't love her. You can also sense a gentle mournfulness in this line as well. She is aware that he doesn't love her, and yet her love for him is is still so unconditional, gentle, and patient that she'll always be there for him, tricking herself with a kind of hope, yet knowing deep down that he doesn't love her. PS on a side note I thought another possible interpretation for "I know" is not referring to her knowing that he doesn't love her but simply referring to her knowledge of his 'sins'. |
