I love this song. What I've taken out of it is that there is no one "way to be" that you need to indiscriminately follow, it's all about taking your opportunities and doing what you feel is right at the moment. It's also about how everyone goes their own way and that you can't change the way they go to, you should respect everyone because they all live different lives doing what they feel is best. Which is funny.... because most of the comments here are pretty opposite of the message he sings. If he wants to be a Muslim, let him be a Muslim. If if you want to hate on Islam, go for it. I'm not going to get my panties up in a bunch because you chose a path of hatred. Really it will only hurt you in the end. |

The song itself is about a lover trying to kill herself, and encouraging her lover to do the same via jumping off a cliff. She said that if you love me, you'll let me die, and you'll die with me, but her lover did not share her belief and let go, letting her die while he lived. This could be a metaphorical suicide of ending a relationship, where she wanted to do something drastic and unhealthy to the relationship and he did not. It ended the relationship and killed her, not physically but emotionally where she essentially trashed herself. It's a song about separation, guilt and lies. |

"I dig a pony", To "Dig" something is to really like it, and a pony is just an example of anything out there of interest, just a random "pony", whatever. And then goes onto say that you can celebrate anything you want, even a pony. The next line is "I do a road hog", to me "to do" something means to have sex with, and a road hog is a seemingly unattractive thing to have sex with, then he goes onto say that you can "penetrate any place you go", this may mean "free love", have sex with every girl who wants to, even the "road hog". He then goes onto say that all he wants is "you". You being the person hearing the song, he wants YOU (to have sex with most likely), And "everything has got to be just like you want it to", he wants to be perfect for you. "Because" "I pick a moon dog," This is reflecting on the idea of picking a dog to own, You want just the right one for you, and seeing as how the year before this song was released (1969) Humans landed on the moon for the first time. A "moon dog" would be the latest greatest dog out there in human achievement. This statement essentially means, I can get anything I want, even a moon dog! And you can "Radiate everything you are" means you can pretty spoil yourself this way, thinking you're any better than anyone else because you can get it, because anyone can. all I want is you (etc) I roll a stony, Where you can imitate anyone you know, yes you can imitate anyone you know! I believe this is a reference to "The rolling stones" and how they imitate the beatles. It's like on modern rap, a dis, he just had to get it out. Then goes onto refrain "All I want is you,etc etc." "I feel the wind blow, yes you can indicate anything you see" I believe that this just a conundrum created to make you think, You can feel the wind blow, you can "indicate" that it's there, but you cannot see the wind blow, the old perception is that things only exist if I can see them with my own eyes. This statement I believe means that you should keep an open mind about ideas, things you cannot see and have more faith in people. "Oh now I dug a pony" Past tense, he DUG a pony, putting surrealism into the song because you recalled that yes he did infact dig a pony earlier, I was there. "Where you can syndicate any boat you row" X2 ???? i HAVE NO CLUE! |

The song is about insecurity and the ability to conquer it. It's the same feeling you get the first time you show your naked body to a lover for the first time. It's the same feeling you get when people walk all over you. And the main message is that it's hard to discuss how you feel and how to people and a true friend giving you comfort is really the only thing that can stop this wave of thinking. When people you care about really give you love and comfort, it's usually in either really great times (birthday) or really bad times (deathbed) where you're unafraid of people who couldn't understand you and might be uncomfortable hearing your inner thoughts. |

Maybe I can shed some light on this. In his journals he made a comic called "Mr Mustache" about an arrogant redneck dad who went to his pregnant wifes belly and described how he wanted "him" to turn out. A fag hating, red meat eating, militaristic, red blooded american. Then the baby kicks through the womb and kills him. Kurt wanted to be a vegatarian but lacked the willpower to do so, he wasn't proud that he ate meat expecially because that's what "Mr mustache" wanted. I think it's more about the mentality of racist, hateful descriminate bastards out there. |

I really listened to this song because I LOVE beck. So this is my interpretation. He is in love with a poor girl, "I saw her, yeah I saw her with her black tongue tied round the roses" Her "tongue is tied" she won't say anything, but her "black" tongue tied is most likely bad, so it must be that she's usually pretty angsty and mean but she loves him, the "roses" "Fist banging on a vending machine, toy diamond ring, stuck on her finger" This means she's poor, she has to bang on the machine because she can't afford to loose the money she spent. Toy diamond ring is not "literally" stuck on her finger, it's just that she can't get a real diamond ring from marraige or anything. ECT.ECT. |
