Wise words ojamaa. Unfortunately though right now this song speaks so perfectly of how i am feeling. I've been in love with a girl for close to a year and i found out on the weekend that she is seeing someone new :'( :'(. It was so drawn out and i feel like i have been used emotionally speaking & she was so up and down in her indecision to be with me but in the end it wasn't me. Hurts so so so much, i don't want to feel this way again. Still. That's life. As for the tune it's really wonderful, the perfect bittersweet chord progression and such spot on lyrics. |

This song has an especially poignant feel too it to me. I had never heard it until a very good friend of mine sent it to me saying she would love to hear me sing/play it. When i first hear the song i got the impression on a two people, possibly a couple winding down after the long day/night. With the "i know we're not illegitimate in our hearing" i got a vision of these two people pouring each other's hearts to each other through their words. I would like to think this song is about strong love, could very well be but i probably think that 'cos i love the aformentioned friend. She knows. Long story. Nevertheless, a wonderful song that i am grateful every time i hear it that it came to my attention. |

I just had a couple more listens of the song and much the same as what people have been saying this really seems to be about just not knowing what is what, a sense of 'what now?' almost like an end of the road quite literally having to decide which way to go from now on. When hearing this song i get a vision of someone on their own slumped in a chair thinking everything and nothing at the same time and feeling utterly alone. On a personal note, with my friend i wish she knew how much empathy i feel for her. She knows but i wish she 'really' knew, if that make sense? :-( Still a hauntingly beautiful song. |

I heard this song for the first time just now after a very good friend of mine put this on her Blip profile. She said it is resonating with her mood so i was curious. This just makes me think that she is in a worse place than ever, what with how depressed she has been for months.. :-( :-( As with all songs of this sort it has its beauty too. Wow i hadn't heard this song for years and years until a good friend sent me it on youtube. I am trying to work out wther it is purely about the singer saying to a friend that things will be okay for the both of them or if it is has romantic connotations to it also. Such as with the lines "One heart, one soul, one mind,Our eyes will not be blind. It�ll take time but we�re going far, You and me, yes I know we are" .. i'd like to think that there are romantic connotations to is as the friend who sent me this video well, things are complicated but i am in love with her but she needs time to get over some really tough personal troubles and i'm not sure if she feels the same for me but i suspect she does as there is a little bit of history between us in that way. Y'know, i'm just gonna go ahead and cauthiously assume that she is telling me that 'it'll take time that we're going far, you and me i know we are'.... :-) :-( *Sorry for the long bio, lol. |

I only heard this song for the first time last night when a girl i am in love with added it to her blip.fm playlist. Thing is, she knows i love her and i am unsure how she feels exactly about me due to some very heavy personal issues she needs to be alone to work through but there has been a little bit of a history between us (not to mention a 4 year friendship). I can't help feeling (or is that wishing) that she is trying to tell me something by adding this song.. guess that is wishing. As for the meaning i agree with most others on here that it is about wondering just who that special person is, where they are, who they are and when they will arrive. (I'm here!!!!!!) |

| It's funny, being in Australia and hearing JBT a fair bit on the radio I've never really listened to the lyrics before until now when hearing them a radio stations best 100 song ever thing (http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100_alltime/countdown/cd_91-100.htm if curious). But this song feels familiar too me, lyrically. I am in a situation close to this albeit reversed. A girl i know who i have strong feelings for went through some heavy personal issues in the last 10 moths or so and needs to be alone to work herself out, but there is something brewing between us. I only relatively recently got into Bjork's music and the very first time listening to this song i Instantly loved it. For me personally it means a whole lot, it almost perfectly encapsulates how i feel about someone i am in love with (she got me into Bjork), who has some kind of feelings for me but can't go there (yet, hopefully) due to some serious emotional leg work she needs to do for herself. But sometimes i just want to say "come to me, i'll take care of you, i'll nurse you, jump off, your building's on fire, and I'll catch you, i'll catch you destroy all that is keeping you back..". *sigh* |

This is one of my favourite songs. It really gives off a sexy yet delicate impression on me personally. I'm not sure it's about a bi-sexual male as many people feel but (as many people also said) that it is about a guy who is in touch of his feminine side. Not necessarily a guy who is 'more' in touch with his feminine side but just a sensitive guy who can express his emotions easily. The line about "his wicked sense of humour suggests exciting sex" i feel is about yeah this guy has a soft side to him but he is adventurous in the bedroom and all the better lover for it. The 1st person perspective of the lyrics is the woman being bowled over by her lover "he's exploring the taste of her, arousal so accurate".. those lyrics i find dead saucy, most likely about just exploring her body maybe oral sex. This guy is obviously the perfect lover being so in tune with his emotions and an amazing lover. Cool, cool song. |

I love the vocals in this song. For me personally this song has quite a lot of meaning, namely someone offering someone else close to them help because the person is depressed but the other person is rejecting the help. There is a bit of exasperation there in the persons viewpoint but at the same time they wont give up. All that echoes something i am going through with someone who is special to me. "I don't need saving".. :-( |

I like catherineks post, spot on for me. Personally this song means a whole lot. I have a dear friend who is going through a very tough time..she is someone i also have very strong feelings for and she is conflicted between "head and heart" in regards to myself :-(. She also lives in another town :'(. Anyway.. The "Although you don't believe me, you are strong.." really struck me the first time i heard it as i have said those exact words to her before. As i am sure many have in similar circumstances. She sent me this song over Messenger. |

I recently re-watched Garden State and this song suddenly took on a new lease of life, big time! I am in a situation where a close friend of mine was very terribly hurt late last year and since then there's been a little bit of a history between us romantically, sort of. She needs to work herself out but i feel she is tempted between the "easy path" of instant happiness through love (us) and the "hard path" of finding happiness with herself. Despite feelings from her part being confusing & undefined at best we've been fairly close on occasion but she is sticking to the hard path of which my support is 100%. It's just so hard having to wait......... and even then there's no guarantees. I admit that quite often, meant in the nicest most sincere way, that she would take me in so we could be together. That's why this song speaks to me and why Garden State makes me choke. |

I really love this song. A female friend of mine who (you guessed it) i have feelings for got me into Leonard Cohen and this song describes those feelings, sometimes very intense feelings of longing we all have sometimes. The line "And if you want another kind of love, I'd wear a mask for you" is interesting. Personally i don't think anyone should change who they are for anyone (depending on particular circumstances of course) but love is a funny thing: to get the one i love i would perhaps willingly do away with my principles and wear a mask for them.. which can't be good. I'm not really a fan of KOL, no reason really I've just not heard them that much other than the singles & the hits. But when i heard this song it immediately spoke to me in a big way. I could use somebody (we all could) but the person i could use is out of reach :-(. There's a few ways this could be read into but the two main ones seem to be homesick & lonely on tour or closer to it i believe is his want to be with somebody he can really Be with, someone who likes/loves him for him.. *excuse me i something in my eye* (i miss you KLD.. ) |
