@[BluishStuf:19807] i agree with your assessment. most of the comments here overlook the multiple boys named in the song. your description distills what each represents. but we also have to factor in the singer here. maybe he's won her favors over the others and has competitively won, but lacks the emotional attachment. and bring on the next one, whether horses or messiah? as long as he maintains, he won't break her brittle heart... |

This is definitely a lyrical essay on America, and falls into the Sam's Town category. It is a commentary on the state of our nation, and how it still offers the promise of greatness. I posted this song on Facebook on 9/11, as I think it offers a great message there, especially on the heels of Obama's speech to the country about taking action with Syria. We need to be careful and shine once again like a lighted mansion on a hill..... |

Plain and simple: this song is from the perspective of a parent offering their child or children guidance based on their wisdom. It may have some basis from Brandon's mother, but as a father he is likely speaking in song to them.
And I agree with the prior comment. Battle Born at first seemed like a disappointment. The more I listen to the songs found there, the more cohesive in theme they have, and lyrically they are very strong. It takes time to truly appreciate this body of work. May they carry on with another offering soon.... |

Sorry houdini, he is definitely saying 'palm'. I'm surprised that no one has picked up on the band's use of palms by now. They have a 'palm' theme t-shirt for sale on their site, their stages often have lit palm trees, and a critic's review of a concert I read online deliberately used the word palm 3 times in their article.
To support my position I did a wiki search on palm symbolism. Here is the kicker:
'early Christians used the palm branch to symbolize the victory of the faithful over enemies of the soul...' Isn't that enough reason to put money on it for the 'showdown'?
Here is the link to the wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_branch_(symbol) |

| Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics

This song is simply about free will and the discovery of power, and how those choices impact your surroundings. That moment when you let go of those handlebars is a great expression of freedom and power. But what direction does it take someone over the course of life?
It definitely is also a commentary on how leaders have exploited their powers. We have some cleaning up to do... |
