Why does it always come down to drugs with you people? What junkie sterilyzes the needle with a match...I never have... of course you do have to cook the smack... but no matter , Jerry was smoking persian, not shootin' smack... This is pretty damn simple.. its a song of love and infatuation with a dangerous object of affection... whether that be a girl or a drug... The wonderful ending to this song is a world of bliss that opens up when we drop our self destructive actions... whether it be addiction... or a dangerous woman... |

"the wall caving in" That was the great depression when Wall Street crashed... he made his way selling bootleg whiskey... like so many folk hero criminals did in those days... Gone are the days when the ox fall down , .... a lament to lost youth... this is likely my favorite song... I can listen to ot over and over... |

This song is about a day the Dead spent tripping on the river... Pigpen , who only drank was laying mostly submerged in the water at a river bend , then jumping out to startle canoers as they rounded the bend... like an alligator. Awesome stuff... this whole album was a sonic interpretation of an acid trip . |
