Electric Light Orchestra – Stranger on a Quiet Street Lyrics 17 years ago
This song from Zoom reminds me of classic ELO - wall of sound, reverb, echo, and Strings!

Though the production qualities of Zoom suffered with too much mid-range in the vocals and the snare is not crisp on several tracks, it's a great album, just way too late (15 years) to re-invigorate the group. ELO and Jeff will remain popular for their earlier works.

Electric Light Orchestra – Don't Walk Away Lyrics 17 years ago
Good song - all the ELO songs from Xanadu were well done, including the title song w. ONJ.

unfortunately the movie didn't fare well, given its release at the end of the disco era. ELO got labeled as a 'disco' band, and they steadily fell off the charts in the early 80's.

Thank goodness Jeff had good sense to leverage his producing of ONJ to produce other great artists like Harrison, McCartney, Petty, Beatles Anthology and of course, whipped up the Traveling Wilbury's just for fun.

Jeff has an incredible talent for producing hits - what he touches turns to gold.

Electric Light Orchestra – Can't Get It Out Of My Head Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is amazing in terms of mood and setting. Jeff has said (vh1 storytellers) It's about a dream of falling in love. the subject has a dull 'bank job in the city' - the popular heroes (robin hood, etc) don't envy the guy with the bank job. this dream keeps him going ("in dreams the world keeps going round and round").

When you walk along the shore line, the water meets the beach, not in a straight line, but in curves... a chicane.

Electric Light Orchestra – All Over The World Lyrics 17 years ago
for those old enough to remember Vinyl LP "records", side 2 of the Xanadu soundtrack has 5 ELO songs written by Jeff Lynne and performed by the group for the movie.

For me, these songs represent the end of my childhood/early teen years of the 70's, and the start of a new decade.

This album takes me to back a simpler time ... just like the movie tried to do. I see it now and realize the irony.

enjoy ELO!

Electric Light Orchestra – Evil Woman Lyrics 17 years ago
I didnt realize that Jeff Lynne worked with the Beatles in their hey-day, like on Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album?

I know he worked with George Harrison in the late 80's and then reunited in 1995 for Beatles Anthology producing Real Love and Free as a Bird.

Electric Light Orchestra – Don't Bring Me Down Lyrics 17 years ago
I still play this song regularly, and it always takes me back to teenage years of the late 70's.

Consider the technology available at the time, multi-track recording required actually handling TAPE, and Jeff Lynne was able to produce amazing multi-layered pop blowout songs - I'm blown away. He has said this song was based on a drum beat recorded during Discovery album, that he looped, and then added in other instruments, pretty much on his own.

Today, with digital audio tools and looping software, anyone is a 'musician' - blah.

Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. This song is an example of one person's desire to experiment and come up with a sound that truly rocked.

Electric Light Orchestra – Four Little Diamonds Lyrics 17 years ago
I always think of this song as "Dont' Bring Me Down - Part 2" both in terms of sound, and the underlying relationship that fell apart. Play them back-to-back and you see what I mean.

Jeff Lynne is a musical genius - period.
