Spoon – Nobody Gets Me But You Lyrics 14 years ago
Don't we all have someone that seems to be the only person on the world that gets you completely?

That's what makes this song so beautiful.

Spoon – Got Nuffin Lyrics 14 years ago
I just adore love songs that are so energetic like this one!

Love is supposed to make you active, happy and hyper. This track fits that description perfectly.

Spoon – Goodnight Laura Lyrics 14 years ago
I'd like to meet that cat. I'm sorry I'll get my coat.

But yeah I can't think of a clearer example of a lullaby then this.

Michael Jackson – Will You Be There Lyrics 15 years ago
This actually was the first song that made me cry. There's only a very few artists that can do that to me. John Lennon is another one, by the way.

Led Zeppelin – Dazed and Confused Lyrics 15 years ago
It's true what they say, Dazed and Confused is indeed a cover. Jimmy Page heard it in a blues bar while on holiday in New York.

It's originally a song about an acid trip, but Pagey changed the lyrics and therefore didn't credit the author. Mind you, the author has later said that he thought it was a great honor that Led Zep covered 1 of his songs.

Spoon – My Little Japanese Cigarette Case Lyrics 15 years ago
I completely agree with the last post.

Bringing a mirror to one's face means reflecting on one's self, therefore I don't really see the link with drugs. The junkies I know are anything BUT self-reflecting.

Spoon – You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb Lyrics 15 years ago
Maybe I have a dirty mind, but when I first heard this song I thought it was about watching a girl masturbate, in which "The Cherry Bomb" was a metaphor for an orgasm. It makes perfect sense to me if you read the lyrics from that perspective.

I'm not trying to be funny here, but if you look at the lyrics that way they do actually support my (previous, pre-songmeanings.net) view.

"Life can be so fair, let it go on and on"

"Now you know your way back from the spirit farm
Brush your teeth for bed, blow out that cherry bomb
Blow out that cherry bomb for me"

"I watched you start that drive alone"

"Oh, so there you go again out in your dressing gown
Get yourself to bed, blow out that cherry bomb"

I realize that Britt Daniel himself has said that it's just about confessing your feelings for somebody, and that that is the true meaning of the song. Which makes much more sense then my first interpretation ;)

Spoon – The Two Sides Of Monsieur Valentine Lyrics 15 years ago
I completely agree with RationalBeast.

However, before I read all the comments on this website, I thought this song was a metaphor on the two sides of love in general. Now I realize the lyrics are probably meant in a far more literal way.

Spoon – Don't You Evah Lyrics 15 years ago
This song perfectly describes a relationship between 2 friends of mine.

See, the girl has been seeing this guy for like 4 years now, and they had planned to stay together forever (Bet you had it all planned, right), but lately their relationship isn't what it used to be, because he's treating her like garbage now which completely destroys her self-confidence.

Because her believe in herself as dropped to point zero, she doesn't have the guts to break up with him (Don't You Evah feel down, I said don't evah, Because it's gonna keep him hanging around). Also, she has told me many times now that being around him just doesn't feel right anymore (Bet you think you have to but it doesn't feel right).

It just describes her situation perfectly.

Paul McCartney – Only Mama Knows Lyrics 15 years ago
I think a lot of adopted kids (including my brother) feel this way. Why did my biological parents dump me? That's basically what this song is about I guess.

Paul McCartney – Mr. Bellamy Lyrics 15 years ago
I faintly remember reading an interview with Paul in which he says it's just a basic story about someone wanting to commit suicide, which makes perfect sense if you read the lyrics.

@ the person who said that he/she thinks it's about a cat: Brilliant! You just made my day. If you look at it from that perspective it's actually a really funny song! Cats always seem to be able to get stuck in a tree when they're young.

Paul McCartney – Fine Line Lyrics 15 years ago
Am I the only one that takes the "Come Home Brother" lyric very literally? I mean to me it just seems to be aimed at his brother Michael (although I wouldn't know why).

Mind you, Sir Paul McCartney has always stated that a lot of his songs aren't aimed at anybody in particular. For me this song is also quite similar to "She's Leaving Home".

Paul McCartney – Dance Tonight Lyrics 15 years ago
Like PinkyElephie said.

I think most of you are missing the point of the song.

It's a song he played for his little daughter Beatrice Milly. It's a song for children, not for adults. In my opinion it's a perfect song for little kids that just wanna dance around.

I mean, saying that this song is just too easy and too simple is like saying Yertle The Turtle isn't literature. Of course it isn't. It isn't meant to be. It's meant for kids.

Paul McCartney – A Certain Softness Lyrics 15 years ago
I really like the contradiction (at the first sight) he's making with the "A certain sadness in her smile" lyric.

In my opinion, in this song he's basically describing a mysterious type of woman.

John Lennon – Whatever Gets You Thru the Night Lyrics 15 years ago
It was also at this very concert that John Lennon made a terrible mess of the bathroom, because he was so nervous about performing together with Elton John since he was afraid that the homosexual crowd wouldn't accept him, that he threw up all he had eaten the entire day (according to the Philip Norman biography anyway).

However, according to Paul McCartney in the book "Many Years From Now", John only threw up because of his drug addiction.

John Lennon – Working Class Hero Lyrics 15 years ago
I know it doesn't have anything to do with the lyrics, but did you know that the recording of this song is actually a combination of 2 completely different takes? After he finished the song, John realized he forgot a verse, but it was too late to redo the song, so the next day he recorded only the verse he had forgotten in a completely different setup and the tape engineer just glued the 2 takes together. That's why the song gets a completely different sound suddenly. In my opinion, although it was a mistake (as stated by the audio engineer in "The Making Of Plastic Ono Band") to me it sounds beautiful, it gives the song an extra dimension.

Maybe he wasn't a very religious man, but he was very spiritual. I think that's what it's referring to.

John Lennon – Oh My Love Lyrics 15 years ago
Unreal that this song has such few comments.

Having said that, I have a very personal interpretation of this song. I went through a very difficult period a few years ago and was very depressed and everything. Retrospectively, in a way it was also a very beautiful period for me (which I didn't realize at the time), because when you're depressed, or at least that was the way I experienced it, suddenly all your true feelings come towards the surface, like oil that floats in water, and that's the way I see this song. When I was depressed the smallest thing could make me cry, but also the smallest thing could make me laugh (like watching 2 rats trying to cross Times Square, true story). When I listened to this song at the time, I sort of imagined I was the singer of this song and "the other person" was actually John, as in he made me see the world with his beautiful lyrics, especially this song.

John Lennon – How Do You Sleep? Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is actually about himself, as stated in both the books "Many Years From Now" about Paul McCartney and the Phillip Norman biography on John Lennon.

John Lennon – God Lyrics 15 years ago
I have always found this song very harsh and cruel.

"
And so dear friends
You'll just have to carry on
The dream is over "

If you listen to "Imagine" first, and then to God afterward, from a certain perspective they're complete opposites of each other. The first time I listened to them consecutively John made me feel very frustrated. "Imagine" is like the prototype idealism song, giving me hope, while "God" basically says: "To hell with all idealisms, just believe in yourself."

John Lennon – Jealous Guy Lyrics 15 years ago
Maybe I'm looking too far into this, but I have always found that the "I was shivering inside" lyric is also a reference to John's and Yoko's shared heroin addiction, and their attempts to "shake it of".
