Ahh this one is on repeat right now, amazing song. Love that the piano plays almost exact the same as the guitar in the song Are you there? (Anathema, but written by Daniel). Think this is intentional, because lyrics wise this song seems to connect with Are you there?.
So this is probably about his lost mother.
The song title, The Exorcist, looks kinda weird at first. But an exorcist is someone who forces an evil spirit to leave a person or place. But the evil spirit in this case is personal demons/problems and therefor makes sense. |

Agree a lot with your interpretation. But I relate to it as the character talking to his ex. Trying to get some kind of response from your girlfriend after she broke up. Just a sign that it's hard for her too, would help you a little bit in your own sadness. You're not the only one hurting after the breakup and that you're not completely forgotten. |

Though written for their beloved mother who passed away, it's very open for interpretation. I heard it before I knew much about Anathema, so this means something different for me. "Are you there" for me, is when you are reaching out for the love you've lost and you just want to tell her/him what they mean to you. When your down after a breakup, you just want the a bit of sympathy, from your ex. Something that shows you that they haven't forgotten you. Or just a little hope that you'll be together again. |

I think the song capture the guilt you feel when losing someone close to you. In my interpretation it's a girl/boy friend, because when someone breaks up with you your self confidence hits bottom and you feel you're not good enough.

Fucking great song! For me this song talks about how you feel under a panic attack. Been there, and I really feel this song describes how it all gets messed up in your head while in that state.
For example the first line:
"you know you ain't goin' nowhere
you're stuck inside while the mind is flying"
You know you can't get out of your room because you're totally paranoid, afraid and whatnot...but the thoughts in your mind is flying all around...you think about everything and it all makes you scared to death.
