i adore the dichotomy of the phrases: "long-life" and "slow-heart." its as though whom she's addressing in the song is referred to as "long-life," and she would therefore be the "slow-heart." as to why she uses these handles... i'm unsure. perhaps could someone expound upon that? |

after reading your replies to others in this song's comments i didn't think you had anything to contribute but insults. however, i have to admit, you are quite insightful in your interpretation of this song. out of all the previous posts your ideas align with mine most directly. i agree, JF is referring to his own past. you're right about the fact that he claims he chose to become a drug addict. i have always thought that in addition to his preference for being an 'underdog' as you put it, he is referencing his distaste for fame in the 'i'd rather stay below' comment. |

i think i should clarify what i meant by understatement. i meant that he is ahead of his time... just on a completely different plane than the majority of musicians out there. i think its quite possible he has traded some facet of his soul to the gods to acquire his brilliance. |

thats the right lyrics, cidistan. op: if you love Jf you really ought to put up the right lyrics so that his words are properly communicated. i love JF too... and i think otherwise you were on the right track with your interpretation of John's intent with the song. you really seem to know a lot about his perception of the world. i think JF would be proud of that. |

anthony definitely sings 'dodger blue' when they perform this song live. have a look at a video of a live performance on youtube... should put that argument to rest. personally, i adore john's guitar work and back-up vox in this one. |
