I really love the melody of the song, sounds very beautiful but mellow. The song is obviously about a couple. But I feel like when they say "Breaking Ties" like in most relationships, when people get together in love, they kind of forget their friendships, and spend more time with each other... lol that's true for most people. And eventually I guess, they break up? Also breaking their ties, and so I guess when she says "Even though I may return to empty places on my own" kind of sounds like they broke up and she'd be remembered of their old times together, therefore, she says "you want me to forget"--- and the life that she hasn't lived yet, is the one that is without the person, she gave up her friendships for this one guy... that's why it's so right and so wrong. Right in the sense that they both love each other, wrong in that it's wrong to break ties with your friends. "I've been fooling myself for too long" as in she knows what she's doing is a horrible thing (horrible friend), but she does it anyways despite knowing that what she has with the guy won't last long. Truth and lies, you and I, breaking ties... Sad stuff, but sounds so beautiful. lol |

I've been really into this song recently when I stumbled upon it on "shuffle" on "Spotify" -- and I absolutely adore the music composition, plus the vocalist. The lyrics at first sounded very very melancholy to me. I'm quite confused about what it's pertaining to, but whenever it goes to the Chorus "I still want these things, flighted childhood dreams" --- it reminds me of how when we're little girls, we want that Prince Charming, or to get married in a pretty white dress... and when she says "But I've been taken, shame on me" --- sounds like she's probably a whore LOL or a slut hahaa. And she feels ashamed that she can't live her dream of being that princess, or marrying the right guy or you know, waiting til marriage... I don't know, that's how I think it sounds like. So when you go from the chorus and interpret the rest of the lyrics, it kind of makes sense... kind of... But none the less, amaaazing song! <3 |

When I discovered this song on Spotify, I fell in love. These lyrics spoke to me. It exactly described the relationship I was in with someone who I was deeply in love with. We were "dating" and not "official"-- we couldn't be because of our circumstances. I fell in love head over heels, and I was never sure if he felt the same. So just like in the song, I didn't want to ruin what we had, or scare him off, By saying "I love you" to him. When I was going through some traumatic things, that depressed me, I didn't want him to see me the way that I was. But I had no one else to go to, and I wanted him to be the one to support me emotionally. Every time we were together, I held back my tongue. I was always waiting for him to take me, But he was waiting for me to try to be friends. SIGH... this song totally relates to that relationship... =\ |

this song no doubt has a nice melody that goes with it, but not so much the lyrics. "I want you to move on, I'm already gone." it's so sad, and retarded. whenever i hear this song, it makes me laugh. of how dumb it sounds. sure there's different interpretations to it, but I would really like to know the actual meaning behind the lyrics... to me, this song sounds like, the singer, is just saying to the person they're with in the relationship, that even though they're together, it isn't right. THey're not meant to be together, therefore, she makes the decision for the relationship to end. Which isn't really fair, so she's being an absolute bitch. How can you decide for someone, if you're not good enough? Only the person that's with you can, decide that. So basically, in the end, you're just hurting yourself, and EVEN hurting the other person more. I can see this song working perfectly, if the person who breaks it off, really does SUCK. And what's more to this song that I hate, is that it's saying "YOU'RE/I'M NOT THE ONE FOR YOU". People are "meant" to be. That's total bull. I HATE THIS SONG. It's retarded. So dumb in many ways. She's not giving the guy the chance to make it work, she's already fucking gone. Not even a "it was good while it lasted"? Well, basically throughout the whole song she's just saying, Even though we like each other, it isn't right, we're not supposed to be together. How can you decide that, and how can you claim you love someone, when you're clearly abandoning them? I want this guy to be happier, so I'm going to leave him? Or it could be that she's saying, she doesn't deserve him, because she isn't a great girlfriend. That would make TOTAL sense. ugh, sorry I hate this song. |

While I type this on my cellphone, I'm listening to this song on my cell at the same time. i wanted to know the meaning of this song... but i guess there's different meanings. i was trying out my tv mobile and that's when i first heard this song. i loved it. what made me love it more was the scene that was playing with this song in the background. it was like my memory being played out on the screen. and this song sums my memory. this song is definitly is about the girl's feelings toward this guy who's trying to pursue her. i don't believe she's in the relationship already. they're both single trying to live life independently. think of the two people are friends. but one of them wants more than a friendship. it's obvious that they both want it, but the other person is afraid of going any further. she wants him to give her up or the thought of them being together, but she can't help fall more in love with him. every time she tries to escape his love, he's not going to give up until she is caught in his gravity. :) |

i agree this is a great song, but i don't fully understand the meaning of it. i get that it's he's expressing his love for someone. but what does he mean by, "but i'm torn to do what I have to, to make you mine, please stay with me tonight..."? --- i don't know if i'm quoting it right. but it seems quite confusing, since the first liine of the chorus is "i was born to tell you i love you". It's like he can't make up his mind or something. How can he be torn? Maybe I guess it's because he's not with that girl he wants to be with? But what does he HAVE to do that which will make him torn or is tearing him apart? Even though he clearly says "I was born to love you" But even still, he says, "to make you mine, please stay with me tonight" So, even though it seems like he was with the girl, but has to break up with her, but he wants to make her his, so stay with him that night? but it doesn't MAKE SENSE. that's basically what I got from it. Just the whole line, "but i'm torn to do what I have to" ---- and what the hell is that? OR... here's another way I just thought of while rereading the lyrics again. Reading the other stanzas, it makes a LITTLE more sense, to think of it as, they're not together. Like, they're dating or something. Or they have some type of "forbidden love" --- that's why he's torn to do what he has to do. Which is to not see her anymore or be together. Which isn't what he wants, because when she's next to him, will bring "life to his deepest hopes" which is probably to be together in love. Then closer to the end before the repeat of the chorus over and over again he says: "I know everything you wanted isn't anything you have" well, then again i thought it meant, something similar to "You want something but you can't have it"? or "it's never whatever the person wants, but what's best for everyone" EH. I give up. this song is nice, but the chorus is waaay confusing. |

This song is pretty much obvious. a couple. but the girl is always thinking of her ex. so the new boyfriend is getting irritated with her because of it. being compared and hearing memories of her past. toootally messed up, so he decides that it's not going to work. and interprets that what she says to him means that she doesn't want him. oh neyo, how you amaze me with your songs. |

this song is very well made. it's sad, but it totally relates to anyone. neyo's amazing. he makes music and lyrics that no one else can mimic. I appreciate his music and lyrics as well. I've been dumped and hurt before, and this song just speaks for itself. neyo's so very clever. |

hmm.. this song is amazingly true. it reminds me of my relationship with my boyfriend. :) before we started dating/talking i just broken up with someone else. i thought it was too early to start a new relationship, so i didn't tell him how i felt. i was also busy trying to figure out what i wanted, but all the time he was there for me, making me more confused and throwing me off. i developed feelings for him but i couldn't tell him that. i had to clear things up with my new ex and my old. then i decided i didn't want things to happen between us, because i didn't want to complicate our friendship. i valued his friendship a lot. i didn't want to lose it. but i also didn't want to lose him. and he basically is everything i want but never wanted in a boyfriend. I'm not a fan of smoking, but he does hookah. I would prefer my bfs not to drink a lot, but he drinks A LOT. but it's okay. I love him, and it doesn't matter what he does. |
