Borrowed Theme. Lyrics

I used to shine a perfect, borrowed light.
It wasn't mine and it was taken over night.
Shame traces the edges of your face.
Fully lit independent of this place.

Old enough to see,
How diamond, wedding rings
Have counterfeited things.

I've been borrowed.
Shame on me.

My muse is gone.
Forsaken of the theme.
No motto now.
No cradle, no dream.
Bathed in soft, embezzled light.
Six feet below and idealistic love.

But, I still want these things.
Flighted childhood dreams.
As foolish as they seem.

But, I've been taken.
Shame on me.

(I used to shine,
It wasn't mine.
Shame, shame, shame.
Fully lit.)

Now only sweet, little, wishful things.
Are bound and gagged.
Tied up in different strings.
No living castles up in the sky.
Following unbothered clouds go by.

And I've been taken.
Shame on me.

But, I still want these things.
Flighted childhood dreams.
As foolish as they seem.

I've been taken.
Shame on me.

i think this song is about growing up and being dissapointed about how things have turned out? maybe losing your innocence and discovering that wow all your childhood dreams were BS and this is how life really is. i really like this song.

What is this song about?

I think MsChizzy has hit the nail on the head.

I think the singer of the song is the moon. She always wanted to be the Sun, maybe even thought she was the Sun, until she realized her light wasn't hers. She knows that no matter how much she wants to be the Sun, she never will be. But she still wants to be the Sun. And metaphorically, it's how we all wanted these dreams that society feeds us as children...but they're all just borrowed from the popular conceptions, and they'll probably never be real, and never be ours. But we still want those things.

Just my idea. :)

I've been really into this song recently when I stumbled upon it on "shuffle" on "Spotify" -- and I absolutely adore the music composition, plus the vocalist. The lyrics at first sounded very very melancholy to me. I'm quite confused about what it's pertaining to, but whenever it goes to the Chorus "I still want these things, flighted childhood dreams" --- it reminds me of how when we're little girls, we want that Prince Charming, or to get married in a pretty white dress... and when she says "But I've been taken, shame on me" --- sounds like she's probably a whore LOL or a slut hahaa. And she feels ashamed that she can't live her dream of being that princess, or marrying the right guy or you know, waiting til marriage... I don't know, that's how I think it sounds like. So when you go from the chorus and interpret the rest of the lyrics, it kind of makes sense... kind of...

But none the less, amaaazing song! <3
