@[fiddlefaddle:33503] i think the meeting is just an analogy. for me this song is primarily about power and control in relationships. |

wow.
i think this is about realizing a love interest isn't all they're cracked up to be. it's a much-needed assertion of self after failing to set boundaries and letting bullshit slide. |

@[anaksunamoon:333] i really appreciate and agree with your interpretation - i think fiona also did something similar in "i know". |

anyone know what that magic carpet nonsense at the bottom's about?
also, the final line is "i'm still running AWAY," not "i'm still running TODAY."
it's pretty easy to discern. |

for me, this song is about a failure to establish and/or sustain meaningful love relationships. she wants to do better, but doesn't know how. |

i think she's saying "i write of you" after "...book from my fantasy," not "how i love you."
*shrugs*
You speak your fears, thinking in circles and checking what mirrors don't see.
You live your life like a page from the book of my fantasy.
I write of you.

and i long to go
love started here
shoot your star
be a light
is that
don't you call
deer stop bottle in a shell
shoot a thousand stars over me
love to come home
you've arrested a knight
say my name,
shisper it
don't ever turn
i'm deliciously wired
i'm falling in a cloud
shoot a thousand stars over
say my name
whisper it |

i'm surprised no one interpreted this as the obvious profession of two lovers, in a world of their own bliss, above it all... |

Goldfrapp – Paper Bag Lyrics

for me PERSONALLY, this song is about loving someone who's become a burden, and the allowances they're afforded because of this love.
it seems like the relationship is lacking for her in some sense (no time to fuck) but for other reasons she remains (and where would we/be without sums/deals we make).
the brown paper bag stuff speaks to the fact that he's either a cock-eyed optimist or foolishly resilient in the face of problems - specifically, what's lacking in their relationship. (brown paper bags as protection from rain = fail). she may be a little envious of this quality (cheers for that) but still regards it as being too naive, and ultimately, maladaptive.
he is enamored with her, the true her, and she knows it (when you laugh i'm inside your mouth). this also expresses her profound wish for him to be happy. she takes stock in being a source of joy for him. she's poured herself into him to the detriment of all else (baboons and birds/sucking the sun/with the weight of you dear/i forgot).

i tried to make this as general as possible, because i'm obviously using a relationship of my own to make sense of this song, as that's what it made me think of. additional interpretations welcome! |

i think this song is about losing your attraction to a man because he's no good to you or himself. he is possibly abusive but definitely destructive.
i'm biased because i was entangled with a guy who has a drinking problem; this is what it means for me. |

i think its about having abstained from sex for so long, finding a potential partner and being afraid yet titillated by the possibility. the lyrics below seem to indicate that she's weighing whether or not she should indulge.
Is it all as it seems
So unresolved, so unredeemed
If I remain, how will I know

for me this is a song about forbidden love. beth is stepping up to the plate (or wants to) and her love interest is still plagued by reservations. she asks of him, "did you really want?" i.e. do you really want this (me)? |
