Anberlin – (*Fin) Lyrics 14 years ago
The first two stories, the one about himself and the one about the couple he knew from his teen years' church (William and Mary, I assume), are both contained within the first verse, rather melded together. He moves back and forth between them. The second verse is about the mentor of his, Tommy, the missionary. The third verse is about Billy, the traveling healer.

These 5 Down – Hymn Lyrics 15 years ago
He's clearly a traditional Pentecostal, Charismatic Christian. He is referencing the act of casting demons out of a person or place by binding them spiritually in the name of Jesus Christ and casting them into the depths of Hell. He is referencing it metaphorically, kind of, to mean he's casting his sinful nature the specific things he mentioned out of his life. He's praying for God's help in this matter by calling on the name of Jesus to bind his sins and the spirit of sin in his life and to cast them out.

James 4:7 - "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Lifehouse – Hanging By A Moment Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is written from the perspective of a Christian, and it's fairly difficult to understand unless you have experienced what the author is going through. We know that Jason Wade, as well as the other members of the band, are Christians. Wade is actually a preacher's son, if I remember correctly. The Christian life is a constant struggle between wanting follow God, wanting to fall more and more in love with Him as time goes on, and wanting to follow ourselves, or live for yourself, as you said. Often I have woken up in the morning and thought about my life, my relationship with God as it stands, and thought, I really haven't gone very far toward Jesus in the past few [months, weeks, years, etc.]. This is where the line "I'm closer to where I started, I'm chasing after You" comes from. And for a devoted Christian, God is far more important than any earthly love. God is the creator and the ordainer of true love, so essentially, true love between Christians is a part of God. God is the only thing we know to be true. And we do live for God, not ourselves. This is the point of Christianity. The line "I'm standing here until you make me move" talks about waiting for God's guidance to move us, waiting until we know that we know what we are supposed to be doing, where God wants us to go. It's a great feeling to have that release, that movement of God in your life, not having to worry about what you should do, since God has His hand on it all, and "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

First, you really shouldn't insult people for their beliefs about God. It isn't affecting you one way or the other, so really, you should just keep the insult crap to yourself. As for your arguments, if the artist believes God exists, they could write about Him, whether or not He actually exists. Also, I see no indication that the artist here is writing about someone who is with someone else. To sing about falling in love with God is a common motif in Christian music. And we do know for a fact that the members of Lifehouse are Christians. I think it makes perfect sense that this song is about God. Specifically the line "starving for truth" would not make any sense if it was a song about a woman, but Jesus Christ is "The Way, the Truth, and the Life"(John 14:6), so it would make perfect sense for this song to be about Him.

It's a very common theme in Christianity as a whole, as well as in Christian music, to want to "fall in love" with Jesus. For an example, Jars of Clay wrote a song a while back (first album, I think) entitled "Love Song for a Savior". The chorus consists completely of "I want to fall in love with you" repeated.

The Fray – Absolute Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm almost tempted to put this in a Christian perspective, though it can be interpreted a bunch of ways. I would only do so on the basis that Isaac Slade grew up as a minister's son and he and Joe King both went to Faith Christian Academy, as well as on the basis of the Biblical quote:
"Man was born to trouble like sparks fly upward." (Job 5:7)

Anyway, if you do take this from a Christian/religious perspective, it could be about the futility of a Godless life, the emptiness ("Is this all we get to be") and searching for the "something" that is there even in the "quiet", referring to God, and about the narrator's wish to be closer to God ("Tell me everything cause I want You here.")

Of course, to be fair, this is easily translated otherwise as well. This could be about a guy who is too timid in his relationship, and the girl who just wants to know him better ("Cause she barely even knows him but if she could see inside") and who wants him to know her better ("Everything is quiet as she waits to tell him who she is") but who is put off by his introverted lifestyle ("The girl, she gets away"). The "photographs [that] will never be taken" could be those from the dates they never had, the memories they never made, etc.

Another possible translation: Perhaps he is in the military, and she waits for him to come home ("It's a kiss sits upon on her lips that waits for planes and battleships"). Maybe he never came home, and this is what Slade is referring to with the Job reference. Maybe the photographs never taken were of their lives had he come home.

There's a few ideas. I'm not really sure which I like best.

This Beautiful Republic – My God Lyrics 17 years ago
This is probably my favorite TBR song so far. It strikes a chord within my own life, as I've gone through this self-addiction loop so many times, caring far more about what I want than what God wants. It's amazing to me that God does take us back time after time.

Adam, on what basis should I 'believe you'? It doesn't even make sense without it being a God-based song. From whom is he walking away? And what is this whole business about "every time he tries to help someone he messes up..." What lyrics are you basing this on?

And honestly, if you want to express your opinion, fine, feel free, but for the sake of the free-expression feeling of this community, please leave out the insults. Just leave your opinion.

One of the best revamps of an old song. I really like what they did with the lyrics.

Adam, seriously, if you know who TFK is, if you actually follow their songs, they are a very lyrically involved band, and they spoke about God in one way or another in most of their songs. This one is no exception. Obviously you haven't done any research on the subject. Don't go making insulting remarks before you actually know what you're talking about, because it just makes you look dumb.

Nirvana – All Apologies (Boombox Demo version) Lyrics 17 years ago
80srockerchick, first off, chill. seriously. No one likes people who who scream all the time. Second, why would anyone write down that they were quitting the music business on a note like that if they expected to actually do it? Who did he intend to read it? Perhaps it was assisted suicide, but not murder.

Bebo Norman – Britney Lyrics 17 years ago
Pretty straight-forward. I'm pretty sure it was intended for Britney Spears.
