"Eaters of the soil take us into the ground Death by worm Eaters of the air drive us from the blue Death by sparrow Eaters of the sea take us into the green Death by eel Eaters of the scraps take in our beds Death by dog Eaters of the soil take us into the ground Death by sand Eaters of the air drive us from the sky Death by flower Eaters of the green take us into the sea Death by water Eaters of the scraps take us in out beds Death by stone Death by silence" Here they are begging for humanity to be consumed for the benifit of the earth and it's non-human inhabitants. |

| Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – Gunday's Child Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
(M-day's child is fair of face) (Drill-day's child is full of grace) M-day's child is fair of face, Drill-day's child is full of grace, Gun-day's child is breastless and blind, Shell-day's child is out of its mind, Lucy picked a fight with a bumblebee, The bumblebee it went and told the crow, The crow it settled down in the old gum tree, Sharpened all the arrows for its bow, Flew across the town to the school house yard, Spotted little Lucy heading home, Shot her through the backpack and through the heart, Maybe that'll teach her, I don't know. Bomb-day's child will always be dumb, Cannon-day's child can never quite come, But the child that's born on Battle-day is blithe and bonny and rotted away. Violence always causes more harm then good and is no way to go about justice. |

| Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – Angle of Repose Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"This garden we’ve planted will come up around us And take us all down in a great big avalanche Of useless things, of persistently plastic things, Of things that cost us this tiny world of tiny kings" If the garden is industry and all it's products (including pollution and corruption) and the narrator "I" is the earth it's self then the song can easily take the form of a warning to consumerism. |

| Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – A Hymn to the Morning Star Lyrics | 17 years ago |

It couldn't be more clear that religion in general is the topic of this song. With many instances of words and ideas extremely common to religious texts, the Christian text in particular, in almost every line. They may have wanted it to be about Jesus and Christianity. "2000 years", and "blood of the infant god" are possibly the most obvious indicators of this in the song. Ofcourse since Christianity is historically based on religions that came before it (what are now known as myths) it is impossible for anyone to talk about one without seemingly referring to another or many. However considering the context of the place and time in which this song was written it is more then likely that they had Christianity in mind. The topic of the album (mankind is a plague and it would be better for us to be removed)is not lost in this assault on religion. Religions, especially Christianity, have given arguments to ignore things like global warming since we can not destroy what god has created even if we try (we can toss as much carbon as we like into the atmosphere and no harm will come as it is gods atmosphere and planet). So religion is one example of something that has the potential to promote our plague-ness. |
