| Kayo Dot – Amalia's Theme Lyrics | 6 years ago |

I haven't grasped a full understanding on this song but my interpretation is that Amalia is an Oracle that either obtains her visions through drug use or just happens to be a drug addict. The things that hint towards me that its heroin or something like it is: "Plots and visions, empty amber bottle Opiate, the sky is blue today Amalia nods Glyph in Dragging blood Amalia swaying" I believe heroin users will typically insert the needle into their arm and draw blood into the syringe before injecting it, thus "dragging blood". Nodding and swaying will be physical tells that she's high. Additionally the lyric book has a pattern of syringes in the background. So combining that with what silverspawn said above, I think all the references to Delphi are supposed to draw a comparison between Amalia and the Oracle of Delphi being similar in more ways than simply both being oracles. Perhaps Amalia is a reincarnation of the Oracle? I don't know much about Delphi personally. |

| Kayo Dot – A Pitcher of Summer Lyrics | 8 years ago |

The way I view these lyrics is that its all metaphorical. This is just my perspective and, while I don't mean to impose upon who Byron is as a person, I would assume that he must be someone who is quite fond of nature and likes to use nature as a descriptor to emotions he's trying to convey. This whole song seems as if its about those moments when you're perhaps feeling down, uninspired, or generally unhappy. Not necessarily about depression, because if Winter represents sadness then its safe to assume that the metaphor here is that it comes and goes which isn't the case for clinical depression. Speaking from personal experience as a song writer, sometimes I go through these funks (metaphorical winter) where I can't seem to write anything. my "pitcher of summer", so to speak, is that I record most ideas I have and sit them aside (the shelf) until I eventually pull them out to analyze what I had written in the past and to see if I can gain some inspiration. This would be the part is which he metaphorically pours the contents of his pitcher in his garden, trying to spur inspiration, but the snow still falls quietly around. Sometimes the inspiration is just not there. Sometimes you just need to wait for the summer to come back around. But that's just my interpretation. Could be about a relationship, but I think the seasons and the cycle has some importance here. |

| Steven Wilson – Index Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think this is one of the more direct songs that Steven Wilson has written based on his personal hobbies. Both him and Mikael Akerfeldt are collectors of music. They both catalogue and preserve their record collections and often spend time thumbing through their vinyl discussing bands that they like. If anything, Steven Wilson may have made this sound more sinister than it actually is. He might have imagined what his life would be like if he had compulsively HAD to buy records and his house looked like an episode of that Hoarders television show. Maybe he feels a little bit like he is one of those people, just a little bit more sane. | |

I'm pretty sure its about suicide. Assisted suicide. I believe this song is about a man on his deathbed with his significant other beside him, wanting his suffering to end. More importantly though, he wants to die soon (easing his suffering would also ease hers). Now, if your wondering why I get so specific on this next sentence, its because it happened in an episode of Six Feet Under :P. I'm guessing the lines "Name my Final Rest, poured into my chest" is about his lover bringing him a drug (in a syringe) that would help kill him. He injects the drug directly into his heart so it acts fast (thus 'Poured into my Chest', 'Embers Neath my Skin'). The 2nd verse is his oncoming death, the 3rd verse is the death taking hold of him, both of which his lover is present. So in the chorus, the orchard is heaven, but he immediately senses something gone awry as he's 'Drained by the Coldest Caress, Stalking Shadows Ahead'. He immediately realizes his mistake, knowing that now he's being sent to hell, and only sees his Halo of Death becomes apparent. He died sooner to ease his lover's suffering, but now he's suffering in hell for it. Anyone else see this as a plausible interpretation? I think it covers all the bases. |
