I never graduated from college because of this song, and others from her. I went to the music center in the basement on my college's library, put on head phones instead of going to class, put the 33 rpm record on. 33 years later, I'm still am glad I have this music in my DNA, but don't give a damm I failed Poly Sci 201. |

I learned more about my self from this record than anything i could learn in college. 32 years later, lessons learned from her still have more relevance in my life than General Accounting. Today I make more money than I'll ever need, but I'm rich having the great fortune of having records like this shape my feelings. Save the money in therapy - listen to this and other of her works. |

equal force? Students vs ROTC guys with guns. Dangerous combination. What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground? Sort of like Nedemeyer in Animal House putting in the live round to shoot into the crowd in Animal House. Sad chapter in our hippe past, but as someone above said, good song, shit happens. |

She got pictures on the wall, they make me look up, from her big brass bed. Brilliant. Growing up in the Bay Area, I don't know how many times in the 70's my buddies and I said "Fxxx It," get in truck, take it down to LA. Amazing word pictures. |

On Harvest, recorded after his back surgery. Muted sound, sounds like he was in pain. "Fix my meals and go away". Tried that line on my wife once, didn't fly. For 34 years I've wondered "like a shadow running thru my days, like a beggar going door to door". Any ideas? |

So many nice comments above, most of them seem to have merit. We all agree on how this song makes us feel. I had the fortune of growing up near Woodside CA where Neil's property still exists today. I believe it's where he recorded "Harvest" while recovering from back surgery, which explains the muted tone of his voice. Regarding Sugar Mountain, no one but Neil knows, but I'd like to believe the dream like area of Woodside & La Honda (mountainous terrain) fits, but Sugar Mountain was recorded long before he moved to Woodside. Hey, any other Neil fans remember the area? How about Boots and Saddle Lodge, or Applejacks? Nice bars he used to frequent. Long may you all run! |
