| Mercy Me – Undone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think this song deals with personal failure and the freedom we find in Christ when we turn from our sin and turn to Him. The theme is centered around someone who is bound in chains which is a direct parallel to sin in our lives. This situation that the person is in, is bigger then the daily sin in which we all suffer from. The author speaks of "brokenness", "defeat", "tragedy". This song is about a big moral and personal failure in the person's life and only when he/she runs to the cross, will their chains be "undone". I am one who is coming out of a big, moral failure in my life and this song takes on particular meaning. The daily choices I made to turn from Christ and embrace this particular thing became "chains" in my life. As a result of my sin and my refusal to repent and turn from it, I experienced true "brokenness", "defeat", and "tragedy" in my life. But as the author so perfectly describes it, if we run to the Cross, we experience true freedom and it is beautiful and divine. The Victory part is what I am struggling with personally...I have yet to truly accept God's forgiveness for what I did and I realize I am short changing what God wants to do. Still work to be done but what a beautiful song that speaks of Gods mercy and forgiveness when we make colossal mistakes in our personal lives. |

| Creed – Rain Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is definitely about life's struggles and a hope for something greater ("Trapped between this life and the light"). The writer seems to see "the rain" as necessary to improving his life and has negative and positive qualities. On the one hand he says "I feel it's gonna rain like this for days" which has some negative connotations. But sees the value in "rain" when he says "So Let it rain down and wash everything away". The writer has hope in this process and says "I hope that tomorrow the sun will shine". The process completes itself when he says "With every tomorrow comes another life". Knowing Scott's religious background and he normally is the writer of the lyrics for Creed, one can only assume this song has a spiritual meaning to it. The "rain" may be a reference to God's correction, forgiveness, and ultimately is restoration. Great album and great song by Creed. |
