| Taking Back Sunday – One-Eighty By Summer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| in my opinion, the person whom the song is being sang about is the one with the power in this relationship. he appears so confident, but in reality he is insecure and won't even admit that he needs his significant other. and the only way for him to have control over things is to tell her what do to (live up to your first impression) and has high expectations for her. he needs attention to love. like an animal hunting on its prey, he needs her defenseless, dependent, and alone in order to keep her. | |
| Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I feel the same way. The way he sings almost turns me on, and catches my breath, but part of me feels wrong about feeling this way. It reminds me of any type of abusive relationship.. in which there is a certain lure that keeps the two people together, even though it isn't healthy. It's hypnotizing. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Cath... Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this scares me. it really does. i interpret it to mean that there's this girl, "cath", and she is in a serious relationship with this man. there's nothing blatantly wrong with him, but he isn't her "true" love. (she can't relax with him, she feels like she's living someone else's dream) but with time, she ends up repressing the 'could have beens' with other people to stay with this man. and as time passes, her heart slowly dies and now she has has no incentive to be with anyone else. "and everyone will ask what became of her". she was beautiful, full of life, and wasted herself on someone who fills the void but does not make her complete. |
| Joy Williams – Charmed Life Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song is so unique to me. i think it's about that love you feel with only one person, a love different than you could feel with anyone else. a love that other couples don't necessarily feel. the girl is explaining to her significant other that even though he/she may not realize it, they are living in a perfect world together because of their love. they are the color in a world that is otherwise black and white in their eyes. she says that she knows it is easy to claim this, but that the way they are together is proof that they are in love like no others. they are proof that true love, amazing love, exists. and because of this, they should stay together forever. there is no reason to leave, to make up an excuse for why true love like that isn't meant to be. that's so beautiful to me. it's the feeling when all the colors in the world seem like they will explode into fireworks. |

I forgot I posted this comment. I returned to this song to write something about it, cause it still gets me every time I hear it. But as silly as it may sound, it makes me feel good that someone, whoever you are, feels exactly like I do. It makes me think. What's your story? Mine is, I met this girl, we talked, and clicked so well. She made me all these promises, especially about how we'd spend the summer together...kissing under the boardwalk, wasting nights talking, and coincidentally, drinking. So this verse really rings true to me. But none of this ever happened. I also discovered this song around the same time we met, and it reminds me of all the feeings I felt in my chest when the phone rang and I heard her voice for the first time. I am now with someone else, and as much as I love her, I'm starting to feel like I'm too empty for her. It bothers me how she can so easily throw away the past. She doesn't understand why I cry for loves lost and doesn't get what I mean when I tell her she shines so bright. I fear that I won't be able to find anyone who feels the same kind of love as I do. |

| Cute Is What We Aim For – Teasing to Please (Left Side, Strong Side) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| ive heard that your left side is the side of your body that is the most sensitive. say if somebody touches you on the left, you are supposed to feel it more there as opposed to on your right. | |
| Manchester Orchestra – Tony The Tiger Lyrics | 16 years ago |
commenting..again. "I was alone, so I set a fire and I wasted it all on you." Fires can be used to catch the attention of somebody to come save you..i.e. you're stuck on an island and start a bonfire so planes passing overhead can find you and rescue you. This guy was lonely and just needed someone to save him. However in trying to catch this girl's attention he wasted all his "signal flares" (i.e. all his energy) on her and now has nothing left for anyone else. He is still suck without her, helpless, and lonely. |
| Manchester Orchestra – Tony The Tiger Lyrics | 16 years ago |
What did you mean, when you said it's destructive? And you sank yourself right into me. This really hits me. Straight through my heart. I still don't understand..all those moments we shared were unmistakebly intentional. I know they were. But why is it that after we finally kissed, now you've run away? I don't know what you mean by when you said that you don't want to be like this with me again. You said you felt nothing. How is that possible? After everything. I felt everything with you. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Photobooth Lyrics | 16 years ago |
^ha i also meant to include: Pictures only represent a specific moment of time. They are perfect for capturing the way things are exactly at that second. But people really aren't pictures, they change, and sometimes a picture only is a physical representation of a memory; it's the only proof left that shows for how things once were. |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Photobooth Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Anything but the blatant proof was your lips touching mine in a photobooth." The only thing that is left as proof that their love existed is a picture from a photobooth. It seems that their relationship changed and their love for eachother isn't present anymore. "And we clutch that picture to our hearts because we expect each other to always be the people in that picture. But people change. People aren't pictures." ^true. I feel like that quote fits quite well with one of the messages of the song. |

"So drunk, in the August sun. And you're the kind of girl I like because you're empty, and I'm empty and you can never quarrantine the past." This brings back all the memories with you that we never got the chance to make. |
| Sufjan Stevens – The Dress Looks Nice on You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
in my opinion, i interpret the line "and i think the dress looks nice on you" as an understatement. it's like...okay well in my head. i imagine the girl with the dress as completely beautiful. and her friend sees her at a dance or something and can't think of anything else except to say "you look nice" because he's so awestruck at how gorgeous she is. the girl that this song is about is one of those people who is really...alive. if that makes sense. she's one of those people who really shines, and really gives off this brilliance to the singer, because she makes him feel amazing. as for the other lines, i think the simplicity of them is representative of the simpleness of the girl's beauty and how pure his love for her is. when he points out things, such as "i can see the fireside turn blue" it seems as if this guy is noticing the simple things that people overlook. this girl is beautiful, but she may not go recognized all the time because she isn't outgoing or loud. it's about the simple beauty that we can find in another person sometimes, and how it can just amaze us. |

| Cute Is What We Aim For – Doctor Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think this song is about getting together with a girl while she's broken...such as after ending a relationship. the guy is trying to fix her and get her back on her feet and is with her on the rebound..but then it also kind of shows the irony of it cause by "curing her" he is also being her whore. if that makes sense. haha. he does this by "slipping" and saying whore instead of cure. ya digg? |

| Death Cab for Cutie – The Sound of Settling Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think this song is about settling or adjusting to how things are, not necessarily because he wants to, but because he can't get it out of himself to do anything else. there is something there that he wants, and he wants to go after it but he can't get up to courage to go get it. "And I'll sit and wonder of every love that could've been. If I'd only thought of something charming to say..." I love this. It reminds me of that feeling of how you could've done things better if you'd only realized it at the time. This song relates to me alot, because I'm kind of 'shy'. ahah. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Tiny Vessels Lyrics | 17 years ago |
so i commented on this two months ago. and at the time, i thought it was about an experience that i'd never be able to relate to. but quite recently, my best friend and i kissed and..touched..eachother in my bed while she was sleeping over. and the next morning i couldn't help but think of this song. i'm going to relate it in the way it happened to me because its a little clearer to me now. if i repeat myself i apologize. in my situation i imagine it as my best friend is singing it to me. when people get involved sexually there are usually feelings that just come out that sometimes aren't meant. often, one person will have strong feelings for the other and the other isn't really affected by it. they may be attracted to the other person physically but they don't mean anything to them. after a day or so, the moment they shared faded and just eventually disappeared. there is "something wrong" because of the lack of shared feelings between them. one person sees it as meaningless and it may mean everything to the other. quite sad really. it makes me feel so lonely i cry. |

| Snow Patrol – Run Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"light up, light up; as if you have a choice." I don't know if anyone mentioned this already, but i think its referring to how this girl he is referring to shines without even trying to. It's obvious he cares about her alot. He has that feeling of knowing there is only one person out there who matters in that kind of way. If he loses her, he'd be lost himself. Kind of really tragic. And relatable. Knowing how that one person's your everything and losing them would leave you in despair. |
| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 17 years ago |
my best friend and i just kissed the other day and this song is pretty much the story of my life. i think its about how he and a girl kissed and alot of shit and awkwardness and hurt has come out of it. he's thinking about how it was something so innocent that created so much trouble. it made him realize that he's in love with the girl he kissed but she doesn't feel the same way, and has already moved on and found someone else. i don't know if 'moved on' is the right choice of words, it seems like he didn't mean anything to her in the first place. he is stuck inside his own mind, and it's making him sick how she doesn't want him. |

| Box Car Racer – There Is Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i agree with alot of the people who have previously commented. this song gives off such a...nostalgic feeling. about young love. it makes me think of love that is so pure and innocent. "will you sleep tonight, or will you think of me?" i wonder what they're dreaming about right now. or if they're awake...thinking of me, maybe? i hope? doubt it though. even after we've grown apart, i hope they still feel it. ...because my love for them still hasn't left. |

| Hawthorne Heights – Disaster Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Oops, I meant to write "But when you let go, a part of you can be lost too." And also, its supposed to be "to reassure himself of who he is." Haha just two corrections, cause I'm anal lyke dattt. |
| Hawthorne Heights – Disaster Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's about things falling apart. You can try to change things or 'put them back together' the way they used to be, but when things are broken its hard to fix them. Sometimes, you have to give up on something and let go. But when he let go, a part of you can be lost too. Its like, once everything you used to know falls to pieces, you don't know what is even real anymore. I feel like he is looking for someone who believes in him, to reassure him of who he is. Who he used to be is lost. |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Title and Registration Lyrics | 17 years ago |
mm, so i've been lying in bed for the past two hours with this song on repeat. "Before the gleam of your taillights fading east To find yourself a better life" I think this is about how a girl left him to move on with her life. "Because it's too important to stay the way it's been" This line really gets me. Its like..about how two people could really be something together and he is experiencing the frustration of them being separated. "There's no blame for how our love did slowly fade And now that it's gone, it's like it wasn't there at all And here I rest where disappointment and regret collide Lying awake at night" gahh, these lyrics are beautiful. It makes me wonder how many other people are lying in bed right now feeling like this. It's amazing, how love can just disappear. |

| Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics | 17 years ago |

this song is amazing. it sounds like it should be so specific, but really so many people can relate to it. hmm and its weird cause the person i think about during this song also has a name that starts with 'k' but more traditionally starts with 'c'. |
| Owl City – Rainbow Veins Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"We should've known, that we'd grow up sooner or later, cause we wasted all our free time alone." I this song can be interpreted about being in 'puppy love'. That the thing he had with a girl was cute and all, but as they grew older they grew apart and spent less time with eachother. And he is nicely saying how what they shared was sweet but its now time for them to grow up, and move on. |

| Cute Is What We Aim For – Practice Makes Perfect Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i know this prob isnt what this song is about, but the lines "practice makes perfect, practice makes perfect sense to me" makes me think of two friends who kiss eachother and tell eachother, 'oh its just for practice, we're normal' but they know they really actually like eachother. haaha, idkk. (: |
| Death Cab for Cutie – A Lack of Color Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well first off this is what my username is based off of, yeahh im lame. haha. but i<3this song. (: "And when I see you I really see you upside down But my brain knows better It picks you up and turns you around Turns you around Turns you around" Ha i know this has been said before, but the thing about the eye first seeing an image as upside down is correct. we learned that in psych the other day. (: but anyway, it deals with perception because the eye sees the image and the retina flips it right side up and makes the brain think its that way because its the 'correct way' to see it. I think this has to do with how his heart is tricking his brain. His heart is telling him he loves her, but his brain is trying to trick him into not, perhaps because it hurts. I also think he could be saying how this girl he sees, is just a girl, but his heart (in the metaphor, the retina) makes his brain feel these emotions that are created by himself. I don't know if that makes sense. But what I mean is that you yourself make your own perceptions of things. You are able to take a person and make them your obsession. And i think he is comparing it to how the retina takes an image and makes it fit to what the brain thinks it should be. "If you feel discouraged When there's a lack of color here Please don't worry lover It's really bursting at the seams Absorbing everything The spectrum's A to Z" Lack of color is refering to how we percieve color in vision. In reality, you see a color, for example red, because that object is reflecting every color in that spectrum EXCEPT red. The other ones cancel out. I think he is saying how people appear to you but only is usually able to capture us. A bunch of people may be giving off positive energy towards us, however the one that isn't is alot of times the only one we can see. What I mean is that we see what is not shown to us. We love those who don't love us back. "This is fact, not fiction For the first time in years All the girls in every girlie magazine Can't make me feel any less alone" This part is about how only one girl can make him feel in love. Nothing can substitute for that feeling. "I'm reaching for the phone To call at 7:03" Haha i know this is a small part, but i think this is a cute line. To me, it makes me think of how if someone tells you, "Call me at 7", you are waiting to talk to them but you don't want to seem desperate, so you call not exactly at 7 but a few minutes after as to seem more casual. "And on your machine, I slur a plea For you to come home But I know it's too late I should have given you a reason to stay" God, this is so sad, but so beautiful and probably rings true to alot of people, including myself. As a whole, this song seems to me about being in love and only being able to see that one person. And he feels like there is something he shouldve done to make her stay, because he needs her. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Someday You Will Be Loved Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song makes me feel so angry sometimes, because i feel like im always the girl in the song. haha as pathetic as that may seem.. but when i fall for someone its always like, they say theres nothing wrong with me, and that someday ill find someone. its just frustrating. and i get that feeling from that song. i think the person singing the song has good intentions, however i feel like, its impersonal, because he is kind of sending her on her way just to get rid of her. he cares, although he is compensating his lack of feelings for her by telling her, "someday you will be loved". it just amazes me how death cab can capture so many different feelings in all of their songs. |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Tiny Vessels Lyrics | 17 years ago |
All I see are dark gray clouds In the distance, moving closer with every hour So when you'd ask, "Is something wrong?" I'd think, "You're damn right there is But we can't talk about it now No, we can't talk about it now" Death cab is amazing. I understand the whole song is interpreted as being with someone for their beauty but not really caring about them, however I also think that this part of the song, if looked at separately, can relate to anything, really. In relation to Translanticism-- I think they are related but not in an obvious way. In tiny vessels, he is saying how the relationship with the girl was more about lust than love. And in translanticism, he needs her 'so much closer'. I think he could be talking about the same girl. He needs a relationship that is deeper and the one with the girl he was talking about in tiny vessels isn't enough. He needs someone who can be close to him. Ohh and also. I know 'tiny vessels' in the song is refering to the girl recieving a hickey, but couldn't it also be seen in another way? Tiny vessels as in being, tiny ships? I don't know if I'm thinking about it too much, but I feel like that could have something to do with the whole theme of the water in translanticism. I absolutely love how I can never get bored of Death Cab's songs. They can be interpreted in many different ways and I just melt listening to them, because they are about such real things. Its genius. (: |

| Cute Is What We Aim For – Lyrical Lies Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"you’re moving but not aware your’re drowsy without a care except keeping your whites behind your lids and your lids are your best canvas I can only imagine what your painting And your body on my mattress is proof And your makeup on your pillow is proof But do you think I am telling you the truth" I think this refers to a girl whom he loves laying in bed next to him, and she isn't aware of how he feels. He's imagining what she's dreaming about. He's staring at her and thinking about how she's really there with him on his bed, with her head on his pillow. But he is not telling her the truth. Although he isn't lying to her directly, he is witholding his feelings. |
| The Fray – Over My Head (Cable Car) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
god, this song.<3 its really important to me. and has over 300 play counts on my itunes, haha. "I never knew I never knew that everything was falling through That everyone I knew was waiting on a cue To turn and run when all I needed was the truth But that's how it's got to be It's coming down to nothing more than apathy I'd rather run the other way than stay and see The smoke and who's still standing when it clears" This part the speaker is saying how he is feeling let down, and now that he really needs somebody he feels like everyone has abandoned him. He would rather not share his feelings with other people because he's afraid that nobody will be there. "Everyone knows I'm in Over my head" I think this means that the speaker is over his head in emotions and he's too deep to get out. To me, it also meant being scared, caught up in your emotions, and not knowing what to do. "Let's rearrange I wish you were a stranger I could disengage" The speaker wishes the person wasn't important to him, because if they weren't it would be so much easier to forget about them. "Say that we agree and then never change Soften a bit until we all just get along But that's disregard Find another friend and you discard As you lose the argument in a cable car Hanging above as the canyon comes between" To me, this part is about changing your relationship with somebody because you've become to involved or don't agree on things anymore. Because the speaker doesn't want to just totally throw away the relationship, he's just going along with things even though he's not happy with them. The speaker is softening his opinions and feelings so that it doesn't mess things up. "The canyon comes between" symbolizes things getting in the way of their relationship and is causing a gap between them. "And suddenly I become a part of your past I'm becoming the part that don't last I'm losing you and its effortless Without a sound we lose sight of the ground In the throw around Never thought that you wanted to bring it down I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves" This part shows how the speaker is getting away from the person he loves. Their relationship together (not saying they were dating, but as friends, or whatever they were) is weakening and they are now coming more apart of eachother's past. Because it is too hard to deal with the feelings he has, he is losing the person and its almost effortless because the other person isn't making an attempt to preserve the relationship. He never thought that the person would bring things down for him. "With eight seconds left in overtime She's on your mind" My favorite line by far. The speaker is saying how the person is always on their mind, and even when important things are at stake theyre all they can think about. During this part, I imagine playing in a soccer game, in overtime and just looking to see if that one person is there. |
