Emery – Thoughtlife Lyrics 11 years ago
The problem was she was not being honest. It was clear she was avoiding the deeper relationship he wanted. As soon as marriage entered the equation she wanted out. But rather than admit that she didn't want to move on with him she filled her mouth "with a coward's lies". Furthermore he did move on. He saw her as a disguise of the girl of his dreams and so he vows to keep looking because he knows she's waiting. He knows there is somebody he can spend the rest of his life with, that IS moving on. She was in it for the short term, he sees that, so he's moving on to find somebody that doesn't resort to driving people away rather than telling them straight. And as for your question. A lot of people are in situations like this. And this song is inspirational in that it has the singer looking to a brighter future rather than stuck in a lonely past. And sometimes penning one's emotions onto paper and making a song out of it can help one or others cope with or grow through our experiences. And last of all, I doubt you would say that if you were in the character's position. So you love somebody, they start driving you away, avoid you, give you the silent treatment. They don't want to be the bad guy/girl and dump you, they want you to get the hint and dump yourself pretty much. They want you to end the relationship so they don't feel guilty. And the reason they put you through all of this is because your relationship went past their comfort zone. They're afraid of a serious relationship. They might have even cheated on you to get the point across. You ask them if they ever loved you and they don't know. Their mind is clouded with doubt. They're not ready for the future. They could tell you no, that would end the relationship, but would end it from their side. Suddenly it's your love being called into question. It was all in your head they say. To be innocent they need you to be the faker. This situation happens a lot, both ways gender wise. This song calls attention to it, just like a lot of Emery's songs call attention to other issues, some controversial even.

The Classic Crime – Just a Man Lyrics 13 years ago
True, but not just televangelists. Walk into a Christian bookstore and you'll find out a lot of companies sell out the Christian image. Cheesy T-shirts, cheesy movies, cheesy music. All cheesy products, companies sell to make mucho profits, not to actually spread the word. On Tv many televangelists like Joel Osteen promoting themselves instead of Christ with their feel good message of no consequences and the whole Prosperity Gospel, the idea that wealth is a good measure of God's favor. Companies scramble to sell their next Bible Translation by tearing at the last. And then sell them at ludicrous prices to unsuspecting newbies who think everything needs to be explained at 2nd grade level for them to understand so they get versions that have commentaries that explain every redundancy and explain how the previous translators are stupid and how they are "experts". And then there are apologists that forgo their faith so they sound smarter. "God didn't really create life, we evolved" as some would say almost excluding his presence and calling God a liar without really looking at the evidence and making an opinion.

Actually they aren't a Christian band, but 3 out of the 5 members are christian. Regardless all of their songs do have a very uplifting or thought provoking message.

The Classic Crime – The Way That You Are Lyrics 14 years ago
To me it means that sometimes we get ourselves into failures such as addictions or sexual immoralities and one of the hardest things to do is tell those you befriended in those situations that you want out, that you want to quit. Telling a friend who you do drugs with that you are through with doing those drugs and even sometimes confessing your guilt about it can be hard. Many times they backlash due to their guilt and desire or their loneliness and try to tell you there is nothing you can do, that you are a sinner and always will be a sinner in order to get you to stay. Or a man/Woman tells their partner that they can't leave because they are a used whore and that nobody would want them knowing that. This song, to me tells the listener that forget that. Don't let them tell you that that's the way you are, because you are more than your failures. And to add a religious tone to that, that you can start over in the mercy of God.

The Classic Crime – Abracadavers Lyrics 14 years ago
Just because they are not technically a Christian band, doesn't mean they can't have subtle Christian references. 3 out of 5 members are Christian and the band tries to be positive and to me that is Christian enough due to the fact that Christianity isn't just worshiping God, but living virtuous lives helping others.

Flyleaf – Missing Lyrics 14 years ago
She also said that if you're a Christian, it affects everything about you. I think people have a way of thinking that Christian bands make only worship songs. I really think the true meaning of a Christian band is that they refuse to write anything that would contradict their faith. If you are a Christian you will act Christ like. If you are a plumber you do your job. It's not like you carry a bible instead of tools, but if there is a way to shed the light of Christ while you do your job. So many Christian artists nowadays just make God their way of getting paid. I read somewhere that the Gospel Music awards (or whatever it is called) held a benefit concert. Tickets were $1000 dollars apiece. Flyleaf may not be a Christian band in the ccm sense, but I think they've proven themselves more than Christian by their lyrical content. Did they become a band to spread a Christian message? Probably not, but I think they are doing what God calls them to do and that is being Christians.

Jason Michael Carroll – Alyssa Lies Lyrics 15 years ago
@soccerpl1997 I understand how you feel. Seeing a child hurt or killed would be enough to make my blood boil, but before either of us write off the parent and condemn them, we need to remember that any judgement should come from the Holy Judge. Now that we have that out of the way and before we come to the conclusion that God is going to automatically condemn them to Hell, let's consider God's purpose for mankind. John 3: 16-18a says
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already.

God's purpose is not to condemn. He wants reformation not punishment. If you think Child abuse is bad consider one of the most prominent apostles. Paul who at the time went by Saul murdered Christians many times. I am not sure if children were killed, but if I am assuming correctly, if a child was a Christian, then they would be at just as high of a risk of execution. By today's standards Paul was by definition a serial killer. One of the world's worst men at the time had an experience with God and became possibly the most successful preacher for a long time and I mean Long if it ever ended. By your standard, Christianity may never have spread as fast and could possibly have died. Also remember that God has standards more strict than we do. He pays much more attention to the "small sins" than we ever do and He judges equally by His standards. If God started sending people to hell on their first strike then the Earth would be completely barren of humans. But as I said God has reformation, not punishment on His mind. We all deserve Hell, but He sent His Only Begotten Son to die for all of our sins. Yes, even child abuse is covered. If it wasn't then our God would not be doing what he said he was doing. Our God is an awesome God that can turn the worst person into the best. Next time you see a child in a spot of abuse, help the parent as well if you can. It goes over a lot better with God to forgive and help than to condemn and abandon.

Also if you can tolerate anime, you should watch Samurai X: Reflections. It is a very moving movie about an assassin who gave up killing and may make you see things differently.

Family Force 5 – Wake the Dead Lyrics 15 years ago
I think it is referring to how some oppose that type of music, particularly the more "seasoned" believers. I read this one site where this guy condemns rock music and CCM. While the site had a lot of good content I still don't see how an entire genre could be devilish. Even my church doesn't really like some of the harder music, although they are trying to understand that with a new generation will come new entertainment and technology. Some "old Foggies" need to see that this new generation is trying to bring people to Christ and that Pharisaical thinking isn't glorifying God. This song is just trying to break out of that one genre for Christ and all rules kind of thinking that the pharisees were accused of. At least to me.

Relient K – Marilyn Manson Ate My Girlfriend Lyrics 15 years ago
Marilyn Manson, proudly boasts:

"Hopefully, I’ll be remembered as the person who brought an end to Christianity." (Spin, August 1996, p. 34)

Manson’s "hope" for Antichrist Superstar,:

"I think every time people listen to this new album maybe God will be destroyed in their heads. . ." (huH, Oct. 1996, p.37)

Manson admits his childhood longing for Satan:

"My mom used to tell me when I was a kid, ‘If you curse at nighttime, the devil’s going to come to you when you’re sleeping.’ I used to get excited because I really wanted it to happen . . . I wanted it. I wanted it more than anything . . ."(Rolling Stone, January, 23, 1997 p.52)

Manson’s "blasphemy" is not just an act. Manson readily admitts there's more to the show than meets the eye:

"I don’t know if anyone has really understood what we’re trying to do. This isn’t just about shock value . . . that’s just there to lure the people in. Once we’ve got ‘em we can give ‘em our MESSAGE. (Hit Parader, Oct. 1996, p.28)

One of Marilyn Manson's blasphemous t-shirts has a three-headed picture of the Lord Jesus Christ. Underneath the picture reads: "see no truth, hear no truth, speak no truth". The back of the shirt is the word "BELIEVE" with LIE highlighted to say the Lord Jesus Christ is a LIE! (See Picture on RIGHT.)

Another Manson "kill" shirt reads in LARGE red letters — KILL GOD, KILL YOUR MOM & DAD, KILL YOURSELF. In smaller, harder-to-read letters, the shirt reads:

"Warning, the music of Marilyn Manson contains messages that will KILL GOD In your impressionable teenage mind, as a result you could be convinced to KILL YOUR MOM & DAD, And eventually in an act of hopeless Rock and Roll behaviour you will KILL YOURSELF. Please burn your records while there is still hope". (See Picture on LEFT.)

When Manson, an ordained Satanic priest, whose self-professed ambition is to "destroy Christianity", puts together a compilation album of satanism, blasphemy, vulgarity and perversion, for the movie "Book of Shadows Blair Witch 2" — Guess what — Manson chooses Christian rockers P.O.D. and Project 86!

"Book of Shadows Blair Witch 2" was the product of Manson’s record company Posthuman. Marilyn Manson, himself, was the executive producer! And Manson, who has a vicious, hatred for Christianity and the Lord Jesus Christ, chooses two Christian rockers! As the old timers say, "that dog ain’t gonna hunt".

Spoken – Across These Waters Lyrics 15 years ago
I seriously wouldn't think they were a Christian band if this was a song about a girl.

"Every thought I have is of you." If every thought they had was of a girl then they would be putting her before God.

"take me to a place where I can see. Where there's no darkness to surround me". Who can take you to a place place there's no darkness? I know God can. Is there any girl with that ability? I think not. The closest I can think of is where being together, they are able to ignore any darkness or maybe even embrace it, that is human nature.

"the way you look into my eyes, show me everything's all right". Another trait I can attribute to God. I guess she could tell him everything is all right, but she couldn't show him by looking him in the eyes. She couldn't even know if she was telling him the truth or not, but God could.

It's okay to have a love song about a girl (I think they have a few), but some of the things in this song can't be and shouldn't be attributed to anyone other than God.

Sorry UberGeetar, In Proverbs 20:1 the Bible says "Wine is a mocker". Here's the verse in KJV "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." I can quote it in another verse although you only have to google it. There's also a page that illustrates this verse http://www.bible.ca/ef/expository-proverbs-20-1.htm . So I don't think they are refferring to literally drinking. Also they admitted to not being a Christian band but said three out of five members were Christians and that their lyrics tended to be positive.

I think he's referring to sin or maybe the devil. The devil and sin in general deceive you into believing in destruction. He's just shedding that sinful side of himself.

P.O.D. – Breathe Babylon (feat. Dirt) Lyrics 15 years ago
Babylon is what Rastafarianism teaches is the established political and church structures, which the Rastas attribute to Satan.

"The period between the Pinnacle and 1959 was one of regrouping. It was a time of intense hatred for the establishment and especially for the police. The name Babylon was now given to the establishment, and Rastafarians with their dreadlocks roamed the street like madmen calling down fire and brimstone on Babylon, using the most profane language to shock the conservative establishment."
(Barret, Leonard E., The Rastafarians, p.89)

The Page where I heard this is http://www.av1611.org/crock/pod_rast.html

For more on P.O.D. look at this Pray Before you look at this so you can spiritually discern as Jesus says in John 7:24"Joh 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."

Disciple – Golden Calf Lyrics 15 years ago
This song seems to hits the spot about that commandment saying to "put no other gods before me". Idolatry is not just the worship of false deities. It also applies to our everyday habits. Every time we put anything before god we commit idolatry. We skip out on church because we stayed up the night before(I've done it too), and even when we sit in church we get impatient, we constantly think about what we are going to do after church be it where we are going to eat or something else entirely, even our prayers are unfocused on God. We don't pray to God. We don't even pray. We close our eyes, bow our heads and continue to think of our daily lives. Children can be noisy, but we shouldn't skip church. Instead we should put God before anything and should have Him in everything we do.

Skillet – Rippin Me Off Lyrics 15 years ago
He didn't create Heaven and Hell for those who believe or don't believe in Him.If it were that way only Aethiests would go to Hell and Satan who commited the first sin would be in Heaven. He created Heaven for a haven for Him and the sinless to Live. He created Hell for the Fallen Angels who rebelled against Him. Humans may not have been sinless when the were created, but they were innocent. When they ate of the tree of Life they sinned against God. God is perfect and sinless and deserves no wrong against Him, yet everyday even us Christians commit sin in shame laughing it up and justifying ourselves. Well I'm sick of it, comedy is no justification for sin. I am tired of Rippin myself off and am tired of seeing people condemning others just because they don't want to judge; knowing very well that just a few words of rebuking could turn those toward God and away from all the things that we all know destroys us.

Ivoryline – Be Still And Breathe Lyrics 15 years ago
I think that last part is him just answering himself.

There was something that I missed.
Probably cause I didn't want to find it.
I didn't want to find it.
Then came the arguments, now there is silence.
Just be still and breath. Be still and breath.

He thinks to himself that God was there all along trying to persuade him to come back. One final argument or many arguments drove him away to his own selfish devices.
