| Lords Of Acid – Stripper Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I accidentally included this song, along with another Lords of Acid song, in a mix CD I handed out to my friends. I got a lot of "WTF". | |

Place this song in the context of the rest of the Defiance album. You might see this song as playing at answer to the question: "Why?" Why get back up after the world knocks you to the ground? What is it all for? Will anyone remember you? Will you have any lasting significance? That drive to make an impression on the world, in very clear and real ways. Ways that will give you hope, hopefully, to keep going at it. |

| Losing your way. It happens to most everyone, and it's not so bad, as long as someone or something jolts you back into doing right by everything and yourself. | |
| Assemblage 23 – House On Fire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"Some seek control By grabbing hold of their lives In a futile attempt To help themselves survive" Existentialism and a "carpe diem" sort of thinking may not be able to help everything, but I think they do a great deal to make you happier and allow you to live a fuller, healthier life. That has certainly been my experience, at least. So I'm not sure what is meant by that all being "a futile attempt". Existentialism can't stop fate from hurting you, but it usually help you recover from the hit. "I dig myself Into a much deeper hole Running from a fate That I can never control" So I'm not sure what Damocles means, in saying the subject of the song is "torturing himself in self-doubt and existentialism", because it appears to me that the subject of the song does not live or think in existentialist terms. I may just have a poor understanding of existentialist philosophy, though. I've always related the way I think to existentialism, and my system provides for the world sometimes being an uncaring destroyer of people. |

| "Open reception" and "forceful rejection" should be switched. | |

| There's also an Iris Remix of this song, on the Fortress in Flames EP. Worth buying, for sure. | |
| The Crüxshadows – Love and Hatred Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| We're human, we're heading somewhere, but we will never know where, and perhaps the only place we need go is further. | |

| The Crüxshadows – Winterborn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"We few shall carry hope // Within our bloodied hands" This is about those of us that that will fight through our lives, looking like amazing human beings, giving other people hope, refusing to submit to the world, and never surrendering. But even those people need a little pep talk now and then, and I think that's what this song is meant to do. "Although we are men, with mortal sins, angels never cry" Even though we are only human, others may see us as something more. If we fall, others will see, and be discouraged. "And in our Dying, we're more alive-than we have ever been" I think this is a touch of overly-romantic bullshit. It sounds nice, but it's a little too reminiscent of that whole "40 virgins in Heaven" thing. Something made up just to give us a little hope. I'm not sure if that's an inherently good or bad thing, really. |

| The Crüxshadows – Perfect Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| In this way, perfection is relative. Sure, humans have their flaws, but that's a given. No one's perfect in the traditional sense, but sometimes you can find a person you find to be perfect for you. And that's special. | |
| The Crüxshadows – Eye Of The Storm Lyrics | 17 years ago |

\o/ Go humans! Go people! Go us! Simply: Go! |

| The Crüxshadows – Windbringer Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Some of the message of this song is also found in their "Sophia". "A star unto the night" is pretty close to "A beacon to the ocean of the night", at least. Change the world for the better, and be yourself. Be something special, and stand in stark contrast to the shitty aspects of the world. |

| Assemblage 23 – Binary Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Closed-mindedness. Conservatism. I dislike how the world shits all over people and makes them curl up in on themselves, choose the path of least resistance. :[ I do my best to balance the effects, make the world a little bit of a better place. I wonder what will happen when we get a whole lot of people thinking that way. |

| VNV Nation – Cold Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Definitely about desire. (And that, of course, includes sexual desire). I think, much of the time, there is too much emphasis on asceticism, or abstinence. It's nice to hear another side of the argument, and so well worded! Been humming this on and off for days. :] | |
