| The "choose this day who you will serve" line is a direct quotation from the old testament book of Joshua: "And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." | |

The whole song, especially the line whichs says "You cleaned the outside of your chalice but it's filled with robbery and self indulgence... just like the rest of us." reminds me of what Jesus said about the pharisee's... Luke 11 vs 37 - 41 - "When Jesus had finished speaking, a Pharisee invited him to eat with him; so he went in and reclined at the table. But the Pharisee, noticing that Jesus did not first wash before the meal, was surprised. Then the Lord said to him, "Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? But give what is inside the dish to the poor, and everything will be clean for you." Maybe Norma Jean were thinking of that verse when they wrote the song? |

as the bible itself says... "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." |

I was reading a christian article written by (surprise, surprise) a christian! - i thought his comments on evolution were good... "Believing in evolution means that you have to beleive that in the beginning there was nothing, that nothing exploded, that the universe came out of that explosion, that life originated out of non life and that incredibly complex life-forms came into being as a result of random chance processes. Since non of these things can be observed as happening or ever happening, belief in evolution is as much a matter of faith as beleiving what the bible says - "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." In fact there is far more evidence to beleive that God as creator rather than evolution, is responsible for the ordered world we live in and the amazing design and complexity of all life forms" |
